Finished the campaign yesterday night. I really liked it, but I'm having a tough time telling whether I liked it better than the second. But either way, the margin would be pretty damn small.
It's mostly the same game. Hell it kept the same formula. Get to a new area, little bit of stealth, shoot everyone, discover secret area, oh shit we were followed (!), shoot everyone, get the fuck out, get to a new area, little bit of stealth, and so on and so forth.
But I'd say the pacing was mostly off in the second half of the game. It felt too rushed, leaving too many questions unanswered. Also, it didn't have that one train scene
Some improvements though: the melee combat has gotten much better (but they kind of abused it in the beginning, I mean seriously, a fight club in the streets of Yemen? ); one puzzle was pretty damn good, hell, it was Zelda-worthy, compared to the first two games, it's a huuuuuge improvement; the characters were much more fleshed out, every one of them seemed different, and that's where the game shines compared to Uncharted 2, I mean they had their attitude, but they felt more generic; the story questionning itself was great, I mean why in the world, even for a billion dollar worth treasure, would you travel across the world through flaming castles and exploding citadels only to get shot at? Makes you think, doesn't it? ; and the plot twists were pretty good, the game plays with your expectations and often managed to surprise me.
So yeah, lots of pros, but also a couple of cons, most important ones are: fucking awkward swimming controls, and it felt much more difficult. I mean, the new cover system has you thinking, as there's not that one safe cover, you always have to keep moving, but it gets really frustrating at times, and the main one is pacing. As I said in the beginning, mostly at the end, but throughout the whole thing, it felt like there was too much action, and the calm moments seemed misplaced.
Regardless, despite my shitty review, amazing campaign.

although the horse-convoy-chase thing thing was thrilling, and some levels like the boat and airplane were quite fun
Uncharted 3 didn't have anything to match its level of epic.
