Well, Wonder Woman 3 has been cancelled and Henry Cavill is officially out as Superman. It appears Gunn is starting a new DC universe from scratch. I mean, I get it. The DCEU has been plagued with problems, from the Snyder/Whedon drama, the need to catch up to Marvel affecting quality, and the controversies from Ezra Miller and Amber Heard to name a few. While I think things could have been salvaged, there's certainly a lot of baggage that I understand moving on from it, and Gunn is a good choice to spearhead things. Writing this out, it reminds me of when Sony decided to do Amazing Spider-Man rather than Spider-Man 4. I guess we need to enjoy what we have left and be hopeful for the next era.

Very true. Speaking of Spider-Man, I really do hope to see an adaptation of J Michael Straczynski's Unintended Consequences soon. While no one knows what exactly is going to happen with Holland's Spider-Man going forward, we can only hope we'll get a college trilogy. If that's the case and we do, I actually think Unintended Consequences would be a good second movie in that trilogy.
Rumors are floating around right now that Daredevil will team up with Spider-man to take on the Kingpin, but considering we'll be getting a whole show with Daredevil and the Kingpin within the next 2 years, I don't see them needing to put that in a movie too. Instead, I'd like to go back to the whole "everyone vs. Spidey" concept, but now he's all low tech and homemade s***. You see a more seasoned fighter in movie 4 who takes out bad guys with quickness and efficiency, and maybe too much urgency. Perhaps his superheroing is still limited to only being a hammer. The sequel to that could be a good place to do the Unintended Consequences storyline. If they put Daredevil in that movie, he could show Peter a little bit about what it's like to interact with the people he's saving without the mask on, and also the people whose lives have been affected by those he helped to put away.
Marvel being Marvel tho, they're going to go really big with the movie and we won't get any shades of this. Last pitch for the night: Secret Wars is, I imagine, going to be about taking Kang out. I think it'd be awesome if the movie could find a way to give Spider-Man and the other more earth based heroes a good chunk of time to interact with people on a street level *similar to the way that Endgame allowed the first 40 minutes of the movie to be all about life after the snap*. So like, if earth has been invaded by alien forces or Ultron bots or whatever in Secret wars, I think it'd be really cool to see the street level heroes sneaking around, being covert, and handling business on the ground so that the heavy hitters can do what they need to do up in the sky or wherever.

Glad you're here brotherandbassist. One I like to refer to is from Rocky (don't remember which one). It goes something like, "Every champion was once a contender who refused to give up". I have a lot of kids on my cross country and track programs re-evaluating their self image for the better because of months and months of hard work paying off. Good stuff.

Remember when we used to play this kind of game before it was banned? Well let's do it again. Now just to get off to an easy start, we'll race to 100 posts. Whoever makes the 100th post in the thread wins! There are only a couple rules: 1. No double-posting within 24 hours. 2. The post you have has to mean something. 3. No post deleting. And with this being post no. 1, GO! Just realized that I've broken this rule so many times, I've lost track. Two things are for sure: 1) I've broken it less than 7500 times 2) I had an incredible victory that one time... by accident. Don't remember how it happened, but it happened.

So it's been awhile since we talked about Spider-Man comics and I don't know who's all still around to talk about it, but things have probably the worst turn since One More Day. So due to some dimension hopping and time dilation, Mary Jane now has two kids with some guy named Paul. It's a real kick in the crotch after the preceding run by Nick Spencer did so much to get them back together and reaffirm their love for each other. I don't know how Marvel thought anyone would be happy with this development and shows they learned nothing from One More Day. But even aside from the relationship, current writer Zeb Wells seems hell bent on burning all of Peter's bridges in the superhero community, and writing him like the quick tempered rookie he used to be despite having been friends and teammates with these people for years. If Wells' goal is to make fans hate Peter as much as he apparently does, it's kind of working with me. I mean, One More Day was character assassination, but while that was meant to backtrack, these current developments are meant to be built upon and it feels so much worse in a way. They're also saying that the next issue is going to have something happen that Marvel feels Wells should skip conventions to avoid fan rage. At this point, I think they're planning to kill MJ, because it seems like a Marvel mandate that Peter Parker must be in a perpetual state of suffering.

Dang man, that's terrible. One More Day turned me off from the mainline 616 for a while, I can only imagine what reading this would be like. I haven't been current on comics for years, and yet I have gone back and read a lot of the Post One More Day stuff. That's just it though, reading a lot of the post One More Day stuff is just a drop in the bucket. They were just putting too much story out there. I don't know what it's like now, but if what you've read is any indication I could see reading Nick Spencer's work and just skipping over Wells material.

To me, reading Spencer's run felt like reading Spidey before OMD, especially since a part of his run was acknowledging past mistakes and trying to rectify or justify them.

So Spidey update.
First a clarification: apparently MJ and Paul (ugh) were in the other dimension for four years and the kids they have were orphans they found and they formed a family unit. Still hate this development.
And as for the big moment coming that has Marvel worried about Zeb Wells at conventions, well it leaked and Marvel, after hilariously asking fans to avoid spoilers, officially announced that Kamala Kahn/Ms. Marvel is going to die in Amazing Spider-Man by the end of the month. So Kamala has been a very minor supporting character in this run of Amazing, working with Peter at OsCorp (yeah, that's a whole other thing). I can't stress the "minor" part enough, because she's had very little impact on the book that the news she was dying in Amazing was a surprise in its own.
First off, I honestly was hoping MJ would die. Silver lining would be it would give them an excuse to write freaking Paul and the kids out of the book. But even then, Marvel's made it clear they'll never let Peter and MJ be together like they were pre-OMD. At this point, it's hard to care about their relationship when we know it never grow despite the fact they're the most iconic comic couple behind Lois and Clark. As for Kamala, wow this is such a disservice. She's doesn't even get killed off in her own book or as part of an event. It's blatant fridging since it's happening in another character's book; and Peter's probably going to get blamed by the superhero community for her loss, because of course Marvel would like to crap on Peter more. But of course, it's just a stunt so they can time her resurrection for "The Marvels" release in November, in addition to probably retconning her into a mutant to line things up with the MCU.
Marvel has just been losing me as a whole lately when it comes to comics, with the constant relaunching also playing a factor. That side of my pulllist has been getting smaller, with only Miles and Daredevil giving me some genuine enjoyment. And even with Daredevil, I'm waiting to see who the next creative team will be before deciding if I'll jump on to that book's next inevitable relaunch. Say what you will about DC, but I feel they're better at making events and initiatives more meaningful by comparison.

Shout out to Ted Lasso. I've just seen the penultimate episode of season 3, which may or may not be the series' penultimate episode. This is the only show that has made me laugh out loud and ugly cry on a nearly episodic basis. Anyone else watch it?

Just saw the trailer for Echo. This show has had so many bad reports on it that I had almost no excitement to see it. After seeing the trailer though, at the very least, I am excited for the action. Who would've thought it'd be rated TV MA? Furthermore, who would've thought it would look to have a great story too. I'm not convinced of anything yet obviously, but I'm looking forward to it now. Hopefully it'll be a good watch.

Agreed. It certainly invokes the intensity of the Netflix shows, especially with Kingpin.

Just finished Echo yesterday. All in all, it was okay. Earlier reports of it being unreleasable must have prompted some serious edits, because this was far from unwatchable. I actually enjoyed the show, even though it wasn't the most engaging at times. Alaqua Cox was fantastic, Vincent D'Onofrio was much better as Kingpin this time. Like, he's definitely back to his Netflix roots, even if the show itself didn't have the best writing for him. I actually think that the stuff with him, Maya, and all of the Choctaw mythos were great and I could see the potential for a great show within them. Seriously, I really liked what they did with the native history and thought the visual choices were different enough to warrant seeing more of Maya's character in the future. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, especially if this is the last bit of questionable quality on the content side of things to come in a while. Like, if this was the last thing that had a super troubled production to come down the pipeline in a while, I think we actually came out alright here. This could have been TASM 2 bad, but it wasn't.
That aside, the things I've heard about Brave New World do worry me a little bit, but it seems like they've gone back giving Kevin enough room to breath and actually keep a close eye on all their projects, so I have a ton of faith in them being able to get us excited for Brave New World and beyond.

So, I went back and watched X-Men (2000). It's so good, if not a little abbreviated. How lucky are we to have had both Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan? They both elevated their material, and that's not to say the comics don't provide a rich enough tapestry to weave some incredible tales, but... 2000's X-Men was a bit abbreviated. Hell, Brian Singer did a great job directing it too, because he really brought a lot of weight to the separate backstories of each individual character. I understand there was a ton of trepidation in actually referencing the source material, but all things considered they did a hell of a job making the genre more appealing to a broader audience. You know, seeing 2000s X-Men, knowing that a young Kevin Feige was one of the producers cutting his teeth on that project and now is going to go full on, balls to the wall comic book X-Men in a couple years??? My mind almost can't take it. I'm telling you, we need a damn Spider-Man meets Wolverine adventure at some point before the genre goes the way of the Western.
Back to 2000s X-Men though, I love the filter Bryan Singer was using in that movie. Everything had kind of a dark, bluish shade to it, the technology they possessed in that world was pretty nice too. I think we kind of slept on it a little because they were so subtle with it, but seeing cerebro again rocked, as did their holographic display in their war room, and just the X-Men facilities in general. So excited to see that again, and looking forward to a rewatch of X2 as soon as possible.
Edit: This movie is still making money on Stars. I forget how this industry works sometimes. We tried to search X2 up on Disney+, and it's the only one that's not on the platform yet because of contract with Stars network. Good for them. I hope they're all still earning residuals, especially James Marsden, the most underrated actor of that series IMO.
