To be honest, all of the Assassin Creed games have very anti-climatic endings with the sole purpose of them to convince you to buy the next game to find out why something happened. The problem with this game is while we knew before it was released that it would be the final game to feature Desmond, the way and reason he is written out is handled poorly.

ah i see. personally though i loved the end of the first game. the whole revelation of everything was pretty sweet, but the more detailed the mystery got the less interesting the future of the series got to me. everything in-between these endings is good stuff in my opinion, but perhaps you are right that these endings are being manipulated.
