A couple posts up I mentioned Switchfoot's latest album "Where The Light Shines Through". I wasn't dismissive of the album per se, but I kind of gave it a middle of the road review in terms of their overall discography. Gotta say tho, something put it in my head to go back and give it a listen, and upon doing so the album totally caught me. If I have one major critique about Switchfoot it's that many of their albums have a disjointed feeling (in terms of sound). I believe it was 2011's (might be wrong on the release year) Vice Verses that intentionally juxtaposed uptempo songs with slower ballads in order to imitate the polarity of highs and lows we experience in life on a day to day basis. Beyond that tho, I think all of their albums, starting from Oh Gravity! and beyond have for better or worse contained a somewhat disjointed collection of songs. This album doesn't feel like that for me. With the exception of 1 or 2 songs, I think it flows really well. For whatever reason, that's important for me when I'm listening to an album, so for that reason I'm going to have to bump it up to #3. It's kind of an amazing culmination of their past 9 albums, this 10th album is. It may not be totally original in terms of sound, but it's definitely them from the past 19 years. I know I mentioned Foreman's lyricism as a highlight last time (I think), but again, it's something that stands out for the better in this album.

Just got done listening to "Dystopia" by Tesseract. I just discovered this band today and I really like them. It has really poppy, high range vocals, but the instrumental part sounds like djent style metal. I normally hate djent, but this is actually really cool sounding. It has a kinda yin and yang type thing going on between the heavy guitars and the super clean singing
EDIT: The Lion's Roar by Cynic- When this song starts off, it kinda reminds me of some of CKY's softer stuff, but then it kinda turns into a really trippy prog rock song. It sounded like it's gonna be metal at first, but then it really mellows out.

Exist by Avenged Sevenfold
This song is so epic! It's their longest recorded song, lasting almost 16 minutes, and it even features spoken word from astrophysicist Neil Degrasse Tyson. For those of you who immediately think of Avenged Sevenfold as a metal band, this song is indescribable. It goes back and forth between insanely skillful power metal, hard rock, and a soft, acoustic driven rock. it has elements of everything from Dream Theater to Metallica to Pink Floyd that I can hear in it.
