I don't know what to believe, but I think it's too early to react still... The article you link to points out that the announcement coincides with other important female news in the comic book industry, and I hope it's purely coincidental, because what seems to have cost Sony so far, as Cavey pointed out in another thread, is how hard they're trying to follow trends in a reactionary manner. That said, what worries me most is not the announcement itself so much as the fact that the people at Sony are revealing major changes with the franchise almost every other week at this point. I hope they know what they're doing, though you seem to have an opinion about that, haha.

Yeah I'm starting to think they're just winging it now. They seem to be trying to copy the Marvel Studios model without actually considering whether or not these movies can be successful.

Sure looks that way... But I still try to hope that it's merely coincidental, or that the spin-off was already planned and that for some reason the people at Sony thought that the timing to announce it was right. Meh, I'm playing devil's advocate right now, but I kinda wish the devil's right in this case.
