I absolutely loved the audio sound effect that came up when their title card flashed. The ultimate hype trailer, I actually got emotional. Apparently, I wasn't the only one either.

James Gunn's Suicide Squad got me in a James Gunn type of mood. I'm hoping this one doesn't try to overdo it on the jokes. I felt Vol.2 was brilliant in its own way, but felt the humor was overdone and less organic upon repeat viewings. It's not that I mind that all of the characters had funny lines. Characters like Nebula, Gamora, and Drax. It's just that in the first movie they were funny by the circumstance of them just being in specific situations, and in the second it was as if Gunn was forcing humor into situations that weren't naturally funny. I've read that Gunn consulted with the Russo's for the Guardian's scenes in Infinity War and Endgame. There, I feel he recaptured the comedy magic though because Gamora, Nebula, and Drax went back to being funny organically and for me it just worked. Either way, this movie has a lot of potential and I'm super excited for it.

I have enjoyed the Guardians popping up in Avengers Infinity War, Endgame, and Thor Ragnarok. More of them would've been good in Love and Thunder, especially since Taika decided to make Love and Thunder an out and out comedy. The Guardians Christmas special looks like it's going to be a really funny, solid Marvel special presentation. I've been loving the look of the Guardians every time they pop up on screen. Pratt has never looked better as Star Lord, and he's aging gracefully into an older Peter Quill. The use of color never ceases to amaze me, even when these characters show up in other properties.
Guess all that goes to say, I'm starting to get excited to have the Guardians back in their own full length feature film. I see no reason why Gunn wouldn't do it justice and recapture the magic of the first one. Here's hoping we get a full trailer sometime before January *probably not, but still hoping*.

* First off, just want to comment on the holiday special on Disney+: loved it; as heartfelt and hilarious as you can expect from Gunn and the Guardians, and I'm seeing it in this trailer too. * I honestly never thought we'd see the Guardians' blue uniforms in the MCU; Marvel really is going all out on the comic faithful costumes post-Endgame. * It does seem like Awesome Mix Vol. 3 will feature music past 1988, which makes sense given the Zune Peter got at the end of the last one. I feel it reflects him looking forward rather than back considering the first two mixes were from his mom. It'll certainly make it unique, similar to the songs used in the Guardians video game from last year (which I loved); that one focused heavily on 80's music which helped it stand out from the previous two movies, animated series and Telltale game. * Considering the rumors of Rocket's fate in the movie, I'm feeling more worried after this.

I watched this trailer not knowing it would hit me the way it did. I should have known *heck, I did know!* but I totally let my guard down. There's a couple lines of dialogue where Rocket says "We'll all fly away together into the forever, that beautiful sky" and he hugs an otter... the possibility of who he could be talking to, what his relationship to that creature is or could be, or maybe will never be allowed to be and just everything... that wrecked me and I don't even know the context of what's happening! I went for a run immediately after watching that trailer and I kept choking, like, literally choking because my damn throat kept getting closed up.
Wakanda Forever may not have hit everyone the way Marvel hoped it would have, and honestly, I don't think it was possible to fully please everyone given the predicament they were in... but it was definitely effective as an emotional tribute. I think that between Ant Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and this GOTG: Vol.3 Marvel is doing a comeback tour. Wakanda, this, and Quantumania seem to be going hard.
Also, the Christmas special was great. Between Werewolf by Night, Wakanda Forever, and the Christmas special, I think Marvel's projects that are coming out now going forward are going to be a little more consistent again, a little more buttoned down. Hopefully they do keep experimenting with style, but get that quality control back so the consistency is more in line with what we've been used to.

I know this isn't the Christmas Special Thread and there probably isn't a reason to create one since there's so few of us active on here, but man, this song gets better with every listen.
My students were rocking out to it all day long as they entered my classroom. I followed it up with the appropriate "I Wish It Was Christmas Today" song from SNL that has Tracy Morgan, Jimmy Fallon, etc in it. Funny enough, as soon as I heard James Gunn's Christmas original in the special, I thought "They HAVE to find a way to include that SNL song" and within the next few minutes they did! They even found a funny, yet subtle way to include the part where Jimmy Fallon starts playing random sounds on the keyboard at the end of the song.
I'm going to miss James Gunn being a part of Marvel, but him being in charge of DC like their Kevin Feige honestly gets me more excited than him sticking around and maybe not having a lot more to say on the Marvel side of things. Also, I think it's a genius move. We'll see what shakes out, and maybe I'll be eating my words... but a lot pundits and people in the industry were at a loss for who could be a Feige-esque choice over at DC, with many arguing that there is no other Kevin Feige. While that may be true, James Gunn seems to be the perfect answer to that. A guy who doesn't have to be Feige. He's a guy with directorial experience, writing experience, and a thoroughly sound knowledge of the DCU and good story telling via a variety of formats. What potential this new era is going to have, I can hardly wait.
Best of luck Mr. Gunn *salutes*

Both trailers have been great for Guardians 3. Loved it, and visually it's stunning. Gunn's use of color on camera just keeps getting better (Suicide Squad looked gorgeous, as gross as it was sometimes).

deadline.com/2023/02/guardians-of-the-galaxy-3-the-flash-fast-x-super-bowl-trailers-views-1235261136/I'm surprised Guardians beat Flash in trailer viewership. For one, Guardians had already released a teaser trailer whereas this was the first real look at the Flash movie. Also, that Flash trailer was great. Who knows which will be the better movie, but it definitely has James Gunn's endorsement, and that was a film that was made before his time at WB/DC. I guess I'm just surprised because at this point, the general audience knows about the interconnectivity of the MCU, and yet, the string of recent pseudo stumbles didn't hamper people's curiosity to consume the trailer. I guess DC has far more stumbles if we want to look at it that way, but still. I hope they're both great movies.

Early reactions are out, very positive. Before you'd have to take them with a grain of salt but you still knew you'd like the movie. Nowadays, I have zero trust whatsoever until the movie has released worldwide. It's James Gunn, so it has a strong chance, but who knows? Regardless, I'm looking forward to seeing it for myself.

So I thought this was worth mentioning. There are currently 162 reviews in as of this posting, and the Tomatometer has actually gone up from 77-78% to 80% in the last 48 hours. In reading these reviews, I was a little surprised that the score was dropping. Yes there are a number of reviews where it seems the critic just did not respond positively to the movie, and sometimes those polarizing views can make for a lackluster overall score. However, the non spoiler reviews I've listened to by a variety of movie pundits on YouTube made the movie sound as if it would appeal to a wider audience in a way that recent Phase 4 MCU movies have failed to do. Usually a big tentpole movie will start out with a particularly strong score and then it will go down and the percentage will simply continue to drop or perhaps plateau. Happy to see that's not the case at this point in time. Fingers crossed it'll keep climbing.
I'll be checking this out myself on Thursday evening. I'm excited!

Looks like we're up to 81% now. Hopefully it stays or increases at that. It seems people really have responded well to this and I'm happy for it. Sad to see this be the end of the era for the Guardians, but what a beautiful ending.
