Leslie Grace and JK Simmons will star in the HBO Max film: www.cbr.com/batgirl-jk-simmons-commissioner-gordon/Haven't seen Grace in anything to have an opinion on her, but I'm happy they got Simmons back. He wasn't in Justice League for very long and it'd be a shame to waste him.

Despite the completion of filming, the film has reportedly been scrapped: www.cbr.com/batgirl-movie-canceled-irredeemable-test-screenings-dc/I'm really questioning what's happening over at WB right now. Is the film really that bad? Are they backtracking on Keaton replacing Affleck given the Aquaman news last week? I swear at this point Reeves' Batverse is the only thing left to have faith in.

It's disappointing for sure, but I wonder if it's sort of cleaning house. Not saying the talent involved in that isn't good, but WB kept boasting about being a director first studio while trying to build a cohesive cinematic universe. We've seen how inconsistent that is. Even if their highest highs have potential to be higher than what Marvel puts out, their odds of hitting that target just aren't very good based on their track record. Similarly, we've seen how Marvel has sort of taken this approach more with their Phase 4 films and seen the quality of their films decline, or at least the consistency. For every Spider-Man No Way Home, you have 3 or 4 middle of the road Marvel films that should have been more. I liked all of them, but they've definitely lost a step.
I have faith they'll get back into the swing of things, but I guess I'm just saying that the stuff that has come out in the trades about WBs reasoning for scrapping Batgirl gives me hope that they are taking DC a lot more seriously now. There are some very underserving casualties unfortunately, but those were the fault of the previous administration. I will say that I do still want to see the movie and hope we get to see it in some form some day, but if this is a sign of better days to come for DC then I'm cautiously optimistic.
