Wow they're definitely going bigger with this game, both map wise and with the combat. The symbiote looks fiercer than ever with Yuri's voice acting matching that. And I love how the black suit has the classic design and while looking alive; take notes MCU. Can't wait.

Yeah, the gameplay looks insane. It's cinematic in the fluidity of the movements. It doesn't look like someone is actually playing as the character, it's too perfect. I'm blown away. The only thing that isn't quite up to snuff is how clean the graphics look, but considering the level of gameplay we appear to be getting, I understand why.
This reminds me of how on the Playstation 2/Gamecube/Xbox, the Spider-Man 2 movie game didn't look as good visually as the first game, but the gameplay itself was several steps beyond what the first one was.

Looks great from a story perspective. Still not thrilled with some of the face designs, Peter namely. Everything else looks so good, but whatever. The gameplay looks awesome, the story looks good, the voice acting is on point, and the music in the trailer rocks too.
I'll be buying a PS5 specifically for this game.

We're getting so close to the release of this game. I love that you'll be able to glide around the city at faster than before. Actually, I don't think we've ever been able to glide before. Whenever a new Spidey game comes out, the web swinging is always so much fun. After a while though, you just want more speed. This will enable us to do that, and I'm definitely anticipating zooming around the city at unprecedented speeds.

I feel the closest we got was the 2099 free falls bits from Shattered Dimensions and Edge of Time.

Spent last night and all of today plowing through the main story (while touching on some of the side stuff). Insomniac truly outdid themselves in gameplay and story that improves upon the first game and incidentally pays tribute to Web of Shadows and the Spider-Man 2 movie game (specifically the community aspect with people alerting you of crimes thanks to the Spidey app created in Miles' game). It's kind of an immersive experience as well, with the web wings being just as fun as swinging and you can just feel the rage when letting loose with the symbiote; speaking of which, this version of Venom makes Tom Hardy's version look tame. To me, this game reaffirms this as the best version of the character, with a cinematic experience that outdoes the movies and character arcs that continue to move them forward (which seems to be the only universe that isn't afraid to do so).

Wow, that's high praise. I'm definitely excited to get my hands on it, though I might have to wait a month or so. So happy to hear this thing is firing on all cylinders and then some.

Been playing the game a bit. I'm one of those, don't play games until Spider-Man or an Arkham game comes out (though I didn't play Gotham Knights, not an Arkham game so I guess my claim holds true). Anyway, I'm only like 10% through the story but I am loving it. Wow, so cinematic. I told my wife that there are parts in this game that feel like being a part of a James Cameron film (saving that giant capsized boat with all the RAFT villains for one*). Peter doesn't have the symbiote yet, but playing as Miles has more than made up for it. So much power, it's insane how powerful Miles is. I know from the comics and the movies that his bio electric sting is potent but in this game, it's next level. He hits so damn hard, it feels like playing as Thor honestly, I love it. The addition of the web wings is a fun super feature for both as well, I glide around as much as possible.
*That Sandman intro was wild!!

Funny you mention James Cameron, cause it's gonna feel like another one of his movies at times during the last third of the story.

Oh man, I can't wait. So many possibilities. I'm almost in disbelief just how good this game is. I didn't much care for the side missions in the first game. This game actually makes me want to go back and give the 2018 game another go because I am enjoying this one so much. This game gets you invested in these side characters, just like you hear about other top tier games doing, and as good as 2018s game was, I never felt it did that very well. Perhaps I was wrong though? In this game I've found someone's grandfather only to listen to grandfather tell the story of how he met his wife. I played as a deaf artist helping to steer someone the right way. This game does a great job of getting the player invested in Peter's relationships and for me, it seems they really took the complaints of the non-powered play to heart. I had a blast (no pun intended) playing as MJ sneaking around the zoo, or as Peter and Harry sneaking around their old high school. Even playing as those little Spider bots is a ton of fun.
How do you top this? I'm not even halfway through the story, but already this is my favorite Spider-Man gaming experience ever. Oh, and the symbiote suit rocks! Just raw power unleashed, kind of like in the 2005 Ultimate Spider-Man game on PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube when you get to play as Venom. Part of what makes this game so fun is how it carries on the legacy of Spider-Man's best hits prior to it. Web of Shadows was a bit of a mess, but that aerial combat system was a great development in Spider-Man gameplay at the time. I can feel elements of that in here, as I can feel the web swinging influence from the Spider-Man 2 PS2 game, and a bit of influence from the Arkham Games as well.
The only thing I haven't enjoyed is the Mysterio stuff, but I've only done one and avoided the rest, so... I guess I just need to get back in there and give them another go.

I enjoyed the game quite a bit, the movement is just so smooth with the new swinging abilities and wing suit, and there was way less of the bad stuff (i.e. science mini-games and boring MJ stealth missions). I will say though, I thought the first game's story was much more engaging.

So good to see you drop in! I think replayability is a big factor too. I mean, I'm easy to impress because I'm someone who doesn't play video games. A lot of people who are real connoisseur's though, who have a real breadth of experience in gaming seem to feel that the creators played it a little safe on this one. Tell you what though, I'm still enjoying the heck out of it and I hope they're cooking up something to get excited for on this next one. Hopefully it doesn't take them 5 years. I know that's par for the course, that 3-5 year window of development, but still, a guy can hope.

Great to see you guys are keeping this place going! Was a lot of fun catching up on BackinBlack's and your posts, excellent.
And yeah, don't get me wrong, the game was phenomenal, my disappointment is purely due to them setting the bar too high for themselves. I think it's something about the symbiote storyline in general that doesn't quite resonate with me as much as a classic Sinister Six storyline, with a real moment of loss and grief and sacrifice.
