www.cinemablend.com/new/How-Iron-Man-2-Ruined-Jon-Favreau-s-Relationship-With-Marvel-20003.htmlthis article says it all but i'll just bullet point it: - There was tough negotions between Favreau and Marvel to get the paycheck he wanted for Iron Man 2
- Marvel didn't want to deal with that again so even though Favreau wanted to do the Avengers; Marvel said no because he was too expensive
- Rumor is that Marvel budded in Iron Man 2 to make it into production faster and to include the rather large SHIELD/Avengers subplot
- Favreau didn't feel like he made the Iron Man 2 he wanted to. RDJ feels the same way and thats why Iron Man 3 is no guarantee. RDJ is in contract but it'll probably be his last performance as Iron Man.
thats the gist of the article. i have to agree to be honest. i think iron man 2 could have been better. i have this sort of disconnect when i think about it as if iron man 2 hasn't happened yet. if its true favreau didn't make the iron man 2 he wanted then i'm sure iron man 2 could have been better then it was. again if this is true then it appears marvel has gone hollywood. studios budding in once again.

I believe the IM2 thing, but not the Avengers one. Favs has said multiple times that he didn't want to direct, he's still producing it (might be an exec producer).

I'm perfectly happy with Whedon directing. Shame about Iron Man 2 though

Article sounds okay, but like spidervader said, Favreau has said multiple times that he didn't want to direct the Avengers. I think that it may have been unintentionally exaggerated in the article, how badly Marvel's relationship with Favreau ended up.
I also think that sold Iron man 2 too short. It wasn't as good as we expected, but saying "It wasn't that good" is pretty much saying "it wasn't good". Maybe they didn't mean it that way, but that's how it reads. As far as I'm concerned, I'd still say it was a great watch, and it managed to hold itself afloat. It would've been better had they focused more on Tony dealing with the government and the media. Now that I think about it, I didn't like Mickey Rourke all that much, even though he gave it his all. Justin Hammer was fine.

I meant to mention that I saw Favreau in the Cowboys and Aliens Panel, just before Marvel did their Thor/Captain America/Avengers panel to close out the night. He mentioned bumping into Kevin Feige minutes earlier, or vice versa, whoever mentioned it, Favreau was like a kid in a candy store. He was super happy. There does not seem to be any bad blood there whatsoever. I think that if anything was afoot, something would've shown in the face of Feige, Favreau, or Downey. They all were pretty excited. I bet Favreau will be coming back, and that Marvel will be willing to let him do his thing more freely at that point. There's an article on Superhero hype where he talks about the possibility of returning for Iron man 3, and while he sounds reluctant, he's definately interested.
