iPad:
iPad 2:
I get the complaints "its a giant iTouch (i know its an iPod Touch. thats how i call it)
and well it'd be hard to say other wise. the only difference i can claim beyond size is how you hold it. it has a large boarder around the screen.
its not meant to be held like a controller and if you do well you'll cramp.
your supposed to hold it and then use your other hand to click things. it changes how games are played and what works and what does not.
games like angry birds, tower defense like games, plants vs zombies and other point, click, drag games are easily the best games.
virtual joy sticks suck ass and as i said if you play it that way you'll just cramp your hand.
the only game that uses it properly is Dead Space. (its not the first game its an independent story that works as a prequel to 2. its very good)
Dead Space does away with the joy stick and just says hey left side of the screen is moving. right side is aiming and shooting and such. and it works awesomely.
(yeah there is a game that looks that awesome… and it plays just as well)
Now listen if you JUST want to play games and apps and such just get a iPod Touch because alot of the great apps on the iPod are ports anyways and in some cases will be more comfortable to play. oh and its like 200 bucks cheapter.
But if you understand the full scope of the iPad you'll understand what it is really. and what is.. is Apple's answer to the hot and popular netbooks and well the successful kindle.
netbooks seem to basically have 2 features. Word and the Internet.
the iPad does that pretty good. as long as you have your sites bookmarked and such its a very casual portable browser. much more comfortable then a full sized laptop.
let me just say that typing on a digital keyboard is a bitch. so don't expect to be writing school work on an iPad.
and then there is the book reading. it has the luxury of both the kindle store and the apple book store.
lets just say the kindle store has a fuller catalogue (thank God!) it saved me in my english class when i lost my book.
beyond those stores are the comic stores. digital comics is pretty fucking sweet.
its still months back but a few series are actually on there day of release. and you can buy past comics on there as well. in some cases you can buy shit cheaper then in trade.
This isn't just my iPad this is my family's really and i see financial stuff and some like real apps for other functions other then games. even when i'm not using it i see my mom on it for ordering stuff and viewing this or that.
would i recommend it? honestly i'd be inclined to do the opposite. because i find myself and my family a bit of an anomaly. I have an iTouch and i don't use it.
i just happen to use the iPad reguarly. i happen to have purchased all the hot games for the iPad and found them to be unfathomable to play them on a significally smaller screen.
its a i have it and i use it scenario. i have no damn idea if anyone else would do the same. and i can't justify 500 bucks. i mean you could buy the kindle and a netbook and it'd probably still be cheaper.
the iPad is just very hard to grasp on whether you'll use it or not.
if you don't have a laptop or a netbook. i say why not. at the very least you'll use it to surf the web.
all i'm saying is stop the hate. its an intriguing device and i think technology is better that is exists. wishing it never existed for some dick measuring contest between companies you don't work for is just so dumb it makes me want to punch babies.
