so just thought to make a general thread on the sport.
women's world cup just finished up.
USA vs JAPAN
it started off frustrating and yet very positive for US. They had over 15 shots to japan's 5.
the second half was where it went down. US made a sub and not much later in the 68th minute Alex Morgan scored a beautiful goal with pefect long ball to her and work getting behind the defence.
1-0
it was looking good, but when japan started pushing it was looking a bit uneasy. a little past the 80th minute there was trouble in teh box. the US defender managed to get the ball but fell down and tried to clear it, but because another defender was in her way it stayed in the middle for a clear shot in the goal.
1-1
its tied up and goes to extra time.
in the 108th minute Morgan again does her stuff, but this time its an assist. a perfact cross right infront of Abby Womach to drill it in with a header.
US is up 2-1
lots of time left and considering i'm still talking you know what is up. Japan is a very non threatening team, but that is why in the 117th minute a corner kick and a perfect deflection by Sawa and once again its tied 2-2. they don't outwardly look like they are going to score and then they surprise you.
it will go to penalty kicks and while i am excited by them I just hate how it always puts it to one player to screw it up. the pressure on the kicker to not fuck up as big as missing the goal.
the feeling was bad and you know the players feel that way as well and oddly enough the line up for the US was just terrible. The first like 3 were clearly not the best in the game.
The US has the first shot blocked. She was more of a defensive mid field so again I'm not sure why she was in the line up.

Japan gets theirs in

US misses the second shot. right over the goal. this player in particular has been unable to keep it down at all with her shots.
√ - XX
Japan has theirs blocked so there is hope but its still
√X - XX
US has their shot blocked again! the shooter was a sub in the game for pretty much a star of the team. i don't know if the subbing kept her out.

Japan gets theirs in rather easily

US finally gets a goal. Womach was doing it so they finally had someone worth kicking the ball.

with only five shots in penalty kicks all japan needs is a goal to win the women's world cup…
…and it is a perfect shot. right in the top left corner. Japan wins
√X√√ - XXX√
If you watched the game it really seemed like US had control. The possession was ultimately equal, but still the first tying goal just shouldn't of been sort of thing. It wasn't a deserved goal. Not an own goal, but close.
Really nothing much to be said about the second tying goal it was a nice deflecting kind of shot.
Ultimately this is the first game watching the US were on top. I mean Brazil was brutal and France was a tighter game then the 3-1 score let on.
Bottle line is that penalty kicks suck.
