I'd give it a nine as well. My only real complaints were I thought it was weird that Sandman was stuck looking like sand the whole time until he was cured. I guess maybe they couldn't get Thomas Hayden Church to physically film some scenes and they didn't want to do a really fake looking CGI, but it was still kinda distracting and weird to me. I also thought Lizard was pretty underutilized, he's a brilliant scientist as well but they kind of use him more like how they used Rhino in TASM 2 where he just shows up, attacks things and gets knocked out of the way lol. That being said though, the film did and excellent job with all it had to balance and I shouldn't of expected it to give literally all five villains the same justice. I loved the dynamics with the spider-men but at the same time, I wish they were there even longer! While they're essential to the plot and help Tom's Peter in the character development department in a really epic and impactful way, I would've loved to have seen them in the MCU more while they built up the climax.

Iron Fist season 1- 7.5/10
Iron Fist season 2- 8/10
A lot better than what people make it out to be, especially considering rushed choreography sessions/fighting training and budget restraints

Resident Evil: Welcome to Racoon City - 4/10
Tried to combine the first two games into one story and it doesn't work. They also make a lot of non sensical changes. Character development is non existent, exposition is non existent, zombies look fake, fan service is heavily wasted, boss battle is shoe horned in at the last second. Worst thing is the dialogue. Cursing occurs more than actually coherent sentences. Just all around a bad movie

The Batman: 9 out of 10
What a stylish film. I don't think it's the best Batman, but that's because the best Batman is arguably The Dark Knight (or Begins, depending on who you talk to). This movie was really good though and a ton of fun, and I can't wait to see it again.

Encanto: 10/10
I've seen this movie 8 times and counting so far (I'm a father now, and hey, the boy likes it). First time I saw it, I'd rank it a 7. Then I saw it again and music started to get stuck in my head. Saw it again and started noticing everything going on in the background of the movie, how well the lyrics of each song told the story of the film, planted seeds for all of the characters including periphery characters, and came together very well as an album as well. Then I realized that this movie was made to be like a musical on a stage, because well, Lin Manuel Miranda. I also noticed more and more layers and little details.
Guys, I'm not saying this movie is the most profound movie out there. I am saying though, that it's a lot deeper than I originally gave it credit for, and every time I watch it I enjoy it more and more. I can just keep watching this movie again and again, and that counts for something. Parts that I didn't originally like, I started to appreciate until I loved them all. So yeah, every moment, beginning to end is a treat for me. It's a 10 out of 10 for me. I don't expect this for anyone else here, but just thought I'd share.

The Batman: 8.5 out of 10
It's funny, I liked this movie more the second time around and yet I gave it a lower score. I think there was definitely more style to this one than substance, and yet, all the ingredients are there for the next one to be the best Batman of all. The actors are on par with the Nolan cast, the style and stunt choreography is better, the cinematography isn't quite on par with what Wally Pfister brought to the table for TDK and TDKR, but it's definitely good. My only complaint is the substance. I don't think this movie forced the audience to ask questions about Western society on the same level that Nolan's films did. Maybe these films don't have to do that, maybe I'm asking too much. It shouldn't be a complaint really because the movie was entertaining. All I know is, with a director like Matt Reeves at the helm, why not have that substance with the style too? He reportedly called Chris Nolan and said he was going to try and top Nolan's Batman movies, so why not, you know? IMO, if they can bring that to the table next time and keep what they already have, then you'd have a new king in terms of best Batman movie. Great movie though, I feel so lucky as a fan.
Spider-Man: No Way Home- 9.5 out of 10 I'd give it a 10 out of 10, but some of the story mechanics did distract me. Like, the MCU has played fast and loose in Phase 4 with the science and magic of it all and how it all works together. I think it works well enough, but it was still a little bit of a distraction. Lots of people coming up with alternative spells or solutions that could have saved Aunt May, etc., but that aside, what a movie. So much fun, so much emotion, such great special effects and action. They honored the legacy of 3 spider men while still functioning well within the main MCU. Saw it with my brother in law, who somehow managed not to spoil the movie for himself. He was blown away.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage- 8 out of 10 Sony made a rom com. Everybody was loving everybody: Venom and Brock, Kletus and Shriek, Kletus and Brock, Brock and Michelle, Michelle and Venom and Eddie, Michelle and Dan, Dan and Venom, Sonny and Cher, it just goes on and on. My wife loved it. People may not have been on board with how silly it was, but I just took the movie for what it was. The special effects worked a lot better for me this time around, I loved what they did with Carnage and the way he sounded. All around, I'm excited to see what comes next.

Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness: 8/10
As a movie about Wanda with Sam Raimi's visual flair, I really liked it. As a multi-verse movie I was a bit let down by the marketing. The title isn't all that well represented by the movie. Yes, there's multiverse stuff and some neat weirdness to it all, but there wasn't a whole lot of madness and we spend most of our time in two main universes. There are many questions and things that happened elsewhere in the MCU that, it seemed were building up to Doc Strange 2. Yet, many of those questions still remain: what will happen with all of the different timelines running amok? What's going to happen with Strange still messing with multiversal travel? What about Vision? What happened to that guy? Was there any lasting damage, outside of the havok wreaked on Peter Parker's life, caused by the spell cast in No Way Home? None of what happened in Spider-Man No Way Home seems to have mattered here. Or maybe it did matter? This movie's story seemed pretty contained within what happened in WandaVision, Strange's appearance's in his debut feature and Infinity War/Endgame, and WandaVision.
I'm going to see it again on Monday though, maybe some of these questions will have their answers on my second viewing. It was a lot of fun though, even with my lingering questions.

Top Gun: 8/10 I saw this for the first time yesterday and was impressed by the dog fights and also surprised at short this movie is. What's funny is that there are certain major plot points that I had zero awareness of after all this time. Thank goodness, I went in unsullied. Certain things felt a little rushed to me though, which is probably due to the run time. All in all, I think it holds up because I had zero nostalgia coming in.
Top Gun: Maverick 10/10 Funny enough, I just left a comment in the Black Adam section saying that that movie should've been made at least 5 years ago. Here's a sequel made over 30 years later and it's lighting up movie screens around the world and continuing to reinvigorate the box office. What a movie though! I caught the earliest showing at my local cinema this morning and had a great time. The viewing experience was somewhat like stepping into a time capsule. I felt it either maintained what was great about the original, or exceeded it. That includes the original score. They even had a nod to the beach volleyball scene that made narrative sense. If you have a chance, do yourself a favor and watch this movie. You won't regret it. If you're a fan of the original, they are so respectful of the material. They even have a significant, and touching, role for Val Kilmer that made me feel things for the character that I didn't think I'd feel after seeing the original.
Side Note: Val Kilmer's portrayal of Ice Man in the original is a dead ringer for Cyclops. In another universe where superhero films became the dominant genre in the 90s, he would've been an ideal choice for Scott Summers.

Prey: 9/10 I enjoyed this movie, top to bottom: the acting, the cinematography, the action, effects, setting, designs, you name it. The characters were great too. This kind of reminds me of how the Apes movies took a more serious approach and exceeded everyone's expectations. This was that for the Predator franchise. Apparently, Prey netted Hulu's highest views ever for an original release on the platform.
Side note: Watching the movie I thought, "Wouldn't it have been great if they filmed the whole thing with the cast speaking in the Cherokee language?" Turns out, they have a Cherokee dub. Not the same, but still very cool.
Predators (2010): 6.5/10 Despite the rating, I liked the movie and I think it does a good job with what it's aiming to do. It's a fun, B quality action movie and it expands the lore in an interesting way. I give it a 6.5 because the production quality was so-so, and the casting was just off. Also, there are other movies that have similar ambitions but do it better. I think Adrian Brody was seriously miscast in this movie and somewhat out of place. I also think Mahershala Ali was seriously under utilized, but this was a lot earlier in his career. Topher Grace was meant as comedic relief, but he wasn't all that funny and didn't add much else.

Avatar: The Way of Water- 8.5/10
I saw this in a newly renovated IMAX screen in 3D. As you all who are still here know, my ratings are based mainly on my experience with the movie, and I have to say that seeing this film on the best screen I could view it on benefited the experience tremendously. I don't think I would watch it on a regular movie theater screen. I would consider a Dolby Atmos presentation, as those are tremendous viewing experiences as well, but nothing will out do the IMAX presentation, visually anyway.
First I'll talk about the not so great stuff. The story was okay, like the first one, nothing to write home about. I will never be on board with the reductive criticisms everyone parrots about Avatar to this day, but that doesn't mean I was floored by the story either. I actually think the script was kind of bad, and the portrayal of the teenagers harkens back to portrayals in family movies from the 90s. Also, the movie touches on a lot of different branches of science in ways that left me wanting more. It's all very surface level, and that's more of a problem for me this time than it was last time. I won't even talk about his "borrowing" of cultures that were almost cut and paste onto the newly introduced water dwelling Na'vi tribes. That said...
It's an amazing achievement that Cameron was able to raise the bar for CGI in film yet again, considering how damn good VFX are and how far visual effects have come since 2009. I went into this movie wondering, "What could Cameron possibly do that hasn't already been done?" I mean, what they did for the underwater scenes in Wakanda Forever is incredible, and prior to that I was super impressed with the 2018 Aquaman film. So it was a genuine question, how is James Cameron going to improve on this? Now I know. Several people have said that it's hard to believe Cameron didn't actually go to an alien planet and film there, and if you see the movie in a premium format, I doubt you will disagree. While you really can't find much fault if any in the underwater scenes in Wakanda Forever, that film at least has the benefit of filming real people in real settings. A lot of that is real. With Cameron's film, none of it is, and that's the magic of it all.
Outside of that, I have grown tired of Cameron's lack of tact and overabundance of candor. The man is blunt and more often than not puts his foot in his mouth. This isn't recent either. He has pissed me off as a movie pundit the last 20 years. The more I think about the things he has said, whether it's about the Lakota Sioux ancestors, his indignation over the incessant and admittedly annoying Jack and Rose floating door debate, or even some petty s*** he said about Spider-man being sloppy seconds back in 2010, the man has brought a trollish level of scrutiny on himself and he only has himself to blame. As a giant in the industry, it would behoove him to practice giving a compliment to other things without tearing it down simultaneously. Seriously, listen to the man bring other movies up to highlight why his s*** is so much better. Always with the backhanded compliments, which are not compliments at all. Anyway, that's the end of that rant.
Now, if anyone else decides to go check it out, I'd love to know what you all thought of it.
