I looked more into it after and noticed the reviews are really, really mixed. I guess you either like the style or you hate it.

Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace 3D – 3.5/10, it was going fine until the dick himself Jar Jar Binks appeared. That combined with every line said by Kid Vader, ruined the movie.
I still have a soft spot for the movie despite being so crap.
The 3D itself is nothing special, so you betcha it's a cash grab. The only time I felt that the effects made the film better was during the final battle with Maul. That duel is probably my favourite of the series.

i have more of a soft spot for Batman and Robin then Episode I. kind of weird but I just remember BR more vividly then Episode I.
Episode I's flaws are more then just Jar Jar. its bad dialogue, bad narrative, just plain bad execution. Jar Jar is just the scape goat. he's stupid but not the reason why the movie is bad.

Chronicle-9/10. Really, really amazed with this movie. I was genuinely interested from the first trailer, but seeing it is a totally different story. It's a really emotional and tense movie that pulls off the teenage soul very well too! All the actors look and sound like perfect high school seniors and the idea that the whole movie is shown through the video camera makes it feel exceptionally heartfelt. You really feel like you're there. The final "battle"/act is easily one of the best action pieces I've seen in a while. It's not over the top, it's not super flashy or long, it's touching. You can tell that the whole movie is leading up to that point and when it does, you're really interested in how it's going to go. Really terrific film, I highly, highly, recommend it.

I've been waiting for another one of you guys to check it out because it really is that good. Fantastic stuff. Seriously, I'd see this again over seeing Ghost Rider or Star Wars in 3D. Just saying... actually, I'll probably see Chronicle again and Ghost Rider, but whatever.
There are scenes in Chronicle that make you feel like you're up there with these super powered beings, more so than movies that actually are in 3D. When a film does that to you, you know it's doing something special.

Glen or Glenda - 6/10 Reminded me of, "The Room". So goddamn awful it was actually decent. Bizarre dialogue, story and acting. Being a B movie fanatic I can also at least appreciate some aspects of it and how personal of a story it actually seemed to be despite being so out there. Really something else.

Moneyball 9/10
Excellent film. Not sure how to recommend it to people who don't like baseball, but the thing about baseball that once made it America's game is romanticizing the story it creates. Baseball is always a better story then a game, which is why there are so many great movies about them.
So if you are a fan of the sport or just want a twist on the sports movie structure I think you will really enjoy the film.

Life in a Day - 7/10
Beautiful documentary. Very artsy and very interesting. It successfully illustrates how people around the world are different.
Producer Ridley Scott and director Kevin Macdonald challenged the entire world to send a video of their 24th of July, 2010, or part of it, in a video. They had received over 4,500 hours of video from 192 countries.
The result is quite stunning... The movie is very well edited.
Anyways, I'd recommend it to anyone who has time as it is available on YouTube for free.

Hulk (2003): 6/10
My 16 year old self's opinion of the movie in '03 was that it was boring. Here's my new opinion of it.
The pseudo science is actually pretty impressive, given how far it is stretched in the film. Father injects himself with a concoction, passes it onto son, son is mostly okay until he gets high dosage of gamma radiation later in life. They even showed how his father developed the concoction, which many films glaze over. Even Bruce's back story was an attempt to make Bruce Banner more real as a character. It's pre-Nolan hyper realism, I was totally surprised.
The acting should've been amazing, considering the cast. Sadly, it wasn't. Maybe it was the script's fault, I don't know, but the actors came off like they knew they were in a comic book movie. Don't get me wrong, I think they wanted to inject passion into it, but I've seen much better from all of them in other films. On second thought, I'm blaming Ang Lee.
Ang Lee had this vision to make Hulk like a live action comic book. Sounds cool at first, until you see how the editing is used. It's annoying as hell, not to mention distracting. If the artistic gains were worth a damn, I'd say that it was warranted, but it actually detracted from what was going on, on screen. I liked the way Matthew Vaughn employed moving split screens in XMFC, and how he used the animation in Kick Ass to tell the origin of Big Daddy in Hit Girl. I even kind of hope that Marc Webb will be creative with scene transitions and such in TASM, considering his work on (500) Days of Summer. But it just did not work in Hulk.
The artistic direction in general was terrible. All these shots of lizards and dried mold on rocks in the dessert to bring an extra layer of symbolism to the stuff in Bruce's DNA, and the location of the origin of Bruce's pent up rage. It's consistent with Ang's vision, but overall it just didn't feel right.
Last but not least are the VFX. Sometimes they were great, other times Hulk looked terrible. I understand, it was 2003, but I'm talking the Hulk's actual design and how the VFX didn't complement it. Enough complaining though, the Hulk dessert scene (including Hulk vs. the tanks) was fucking amazing, and pretty much the rest of the action after that. It really looked like a dessert was getting destroyed, and the jets looked great too when Hulk was getting carried into space. All in all, the action impressed me (minus the Hulk dogs). I hope that Whedon takes Hulk back to Ang Lee Hulk's power levels, because that is one thing that he got right (except for the growing part).

yeah i'd have to agree with you. even what i thought was wrong with the film has changed. originally it was being boring that made the movie bad, but now its most of the comic booky/hulk stuff that i think is the worst part.
also the "ask me what it means" symbolism was just pretentious. i just didn't get how a firmly traumatic past that was well acted turned into a very hammy and corny present.
its like lee wanted something real and powerful and then counter it with really goofy and honestly insulting. Bana could have been better to liven up the role, which is why Norton was superior. He didn't seem so miserable.

John Carter 6/10
I was completely apathetic about the marketing since last summer when it seems to have started. The trailers didn't excite me and ironically what turned me around to go see it was everyones else's complete apathy. It just seemed like the right movie to just go see without any real opinion or expectations of it.
Undeniably the biggest flaw of the film is the story telling. It really is a muddled mess that asks for plot holes. It works enough to keep the cliches from being too annoying, but on the other hand some of the positives seem to miss out on proper attention. There could have been a good to great movie out of it, but ultimately that was just that one rewrite away. My biggest worry about seeing it was finding it utterly forgettable or even worse regrettable. As it turns out it was neither.
Despite the pacing and its 5 different beginnings John Carter turns out to be a sympathetic character, the action and effects are actually really good, enough humor to liven it up, and some really creative ideas.
If you are in the mood for some really classic science fiction I'd really check it out. In all honesty viewer apathy helps in liking the film. But to be honest despite its many flaws I came out of theater glad I went to see it.
Just be warned. There are entire plot threads in the movie that you will not care in any way about.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon 7/10
The movie ran a little long, and the entire thing was very juvenile, but for some reason I finished that movie feeling full. Even the Linkin Park songs got to me, it was so weird. I'm starting to feel ready to accept more Transformers films from Michael Bay.

Last night was the night of remakes for me. Minus 16 Candles.
16 Candles 7/10: It was okay. Not all cult classics reach me, and it's just because I don't have all the 80s culture to fully appreciate the little nuances in the movie. That being said, Anthony Michael Hall and Molly Ringwald were pretty good. I especially loved the scene between Anthony Hall and Michael Schoeffling after the big party. That was classic indeed.
Straw Dogs (2011) 9/10: I never saw the original, I'm not sure that I'd want to because this movie doesn't seem to have skimped on whatever quality the first one had. If the first one is more intense, I don't think it's for me. That's just because this version made me feel things; it was just so primal and tragically disturbing. I was not expecting to have the intense reaction to this movie that I did. Watch it, James Mardsen FTW.
Fright Night (2011) 8.5/10: I never saw the original, but I plan to. Regardless, this movie was fuuuunnnn. Watch it, it's funny, gory, filled with cool action scenes and great performances. Collin Ferrell has been criticized a lot before for his... unique way of speaking. However, it really fits this movie well. Anton Yelchin is great in this movie, as is Imogen Poots (who interestingly enough were up to play Pete and Gwen). Christopher Plasse-Mintz is good, the Uma Thurman look alike. I just enjoyed the heck out of this movie is all. Check it out.

Batman and Robin - 6/10 Not a typo... Honestly if you view it as a parody.... its not bad. If you view it as a serious Batman movie then it's shit. If they had left out the Freeze puns, Bane, one liners (i.e. I don't suppose they have fax machines on elephants), ridiculous plot points (i.e. Virtual reality Alfred), horrible sound effects and the gay innuendos (i.e. the male statues all around Gotham, bat-nipples, bat-asses) it may have been an average super hero movie. Oh and every Poison Ivy action figure doesn't come with Bane as advertised in the movie.
