Animation has a way of breaking barriers live action properties fear crossing. When the first Incredibles came out, I think a case could be made that it was arguably the best superhero film up until that point, even though Spider-Man 2 was the most common pick for best ever at that point in time (at least, until TDK came out 3 years later). On top of that, Into the Spiderverse is being compared to a comic book come to life, and as good of a film Spider-Man 2 may be, it came out at a time when the genre was still "earning" the right to fully embrace itself. We're in the golden age now, so I think they won't be afraid to go after whatever they want to go after in this story.
Maybe from a film perspective, Spider-Man 2 may end up being the better movie. It's a classic for sure. Even in that regard though, I think Chris Lord and Phil Miller are special talents. We may never know what their Solo movie would've been, but I can't think of one bad movie from them. Lego Movie, 21 and 22 Jump Street, the first Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. All films that shouldn't have been that impressive, but ended up really making their mark either as comedies or solid children's films.

screenrant.com/spider-man-spider-verse-early-reactions/These aren't the only Twitter reactions I've seen, but several people have dished out some major praise. Among those compliments are some things I suspected and largely hoped for, but then was MERCILESSLY ridiculed by Webber for making another bold prediction in my usual unabashed Kanye West-esque style. Jupiter Ascending anyone?? To be specific though, this film has been called the best Spider-Man movie ever, the best animated film of 2018, the one of the best superhero films ever, and one of the best films of 2018 (across all genres was the implication). We all know that Twitter is like Stan Lee in that it praises everything. The worse movies on Twitter will still get like 75% positive tweets and a handful of negative tweets. Twitter can be useful when you observe the level of "hypeness" though. When it's all positive but people aren't super thrilled, you're probably going to end up with something middle of the road. When it's gushingly positive with one or two lukewarm reviews, that's actually a much better situation to be in. Sometimes you get films like Logan, Black Panther, Infinity War, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes... movies that are gushingly positive across the board. When you get that, hold onto your seat belts. That's currently what this Spiderverse movie has. So the prediction stands. I think it will be the best Spider-Man movie to date, by a large margin too. When the full review embargo lifts (tomorrow I think), I sincerely do think we're going to be inundated with incredibly high praise for this one. I also still think it'll win best animated picture in February. It's not because of these Twitter reactions that I think this. I think this because of the things people were saying about the footage when large portions of the film screened at NYCC. Also, because of the people involved. We'll see how it goes.

Still holding a grudge eh? Nah, I'm pretty hyped for this one! "Best Spider-Man movie ever" sounds like a probable exaggeration, but it looks like it's at least gonna be great in its own right.

What made me happy was seeing Willem Dafoe clap during the announcement. :')
