Are you guys at least satisfied with Evans?
Aside from that, I saw Rocky Balboa (aka Rocky 6 / the last Rocky movie) yesterday. I give it a 7.5/10.
I love Rocky both as a franchise and as a fictional character. You just have to root for the guy because he's all heart and good intentions. Yes, the movie was corny, and there was some over indulgence there for the Rocky fans (it is the 6th and final Rocky movie after all), but if you look at it in an uncynical way, it really is a very sentimental, genuine, and heartfelt tribute to the character. I loved the way that the franchise's classic musical themes were integrated into the film. Very sentimental piano, there was some du-op mixed with soul in there too from the original movie.

i thought it was great. corny is how you match with the tone and i matched perfectly so it wasn't corny to me.
i'd give it a solid 8/10

Are you talking about Cap or Rocky, Cavey?
And Mr. Excellent, I thought Evans was alright. Not too good, not too bad, just alright. I don't know about 1923, though.

Well I'm glad you liked it at least. Personally, I think that Rocky as a character is one of those lovable goof balls anyway. He's written to say all those cheeseball lines intentionally because that's who he is. I wanted to quote Stallone every time he opened his mouth. But at the end of the day, it's Stallone's sincerity that makes it all work. I just happen to think that sometimes his intentional cheesiness came off cheesier than he'd intended.

Rise of the planet of the apes-8.5/10 Exceeded all expectations. I was very impressed with what they did. It was more than just an origin story. It was an emotional journey I'm still not a fan of the title, though. It's misleading, and it's not very creative

The Town: 9/10 The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Swedish version, guess that's a "duh" at this point in time): 8/10 Sucker Punch: 7/10 No Country for Old Men: -/- I'll get to that. Red: 7/10
I loved the Town. Fantastically acted, excellently written, beautifully directed, great cinematography. Listen, this movie was badass. I'm glad that Ben Afflec was able to shine again. Yeah, he wrote and directed it so of course he's going to shine, but he did a hell of a job bringing that vision together. I loved Jeremy Renner in that movie as well. He's a beast, and I bought it. It wasn't like some A list hollywood actor doing a good performance. Obviously, we know he's an actor, but he really did pull his character off in a way that felt authentic.
GWDT was good, but it was very cut and dry. Usually when I have to read subtitles I can get pulled in by a movie's plot or characters, or both if the movie is incredible on a scale of ballistically epic proportions. In this case I got pulled in by the plot mostly. But the characters were interesting though, and well acted too. If not for the language barrier, I probably would've been able to put more attention into what the actors were doing.
Sucker Punch was more enjoyable than I expected. One of the rare few movies I'd watch simply for its visual presentation. Snyder surrounds himself with a group of artists that collectively create some very unique looking movies. The fight choreography, gun play, sword play, all of that stuff, was just fantastic and dangerous looking. I loved it. The story wasn't bad either. Kind of reminded me of Shutter Island. I'm not sure what people were complaining about to be honest. Were we supposed to expect something different? cause I kind of went into this movie with a blank pallet.
Red was fun. I enjoyed the guns and the actors. Mary Louise Parker is a cutie, and John Malkovich is always funny. It was a great ensemble film.
No Country for Old Men: Sometimes with the Coen's, I'd just rather read a script. Javier Bardem was menacing, and all the performances were solid, but I had a hard time distinguishing what the actors were saying much of the time. The movie just failed to pull me in. Maybe it's just me, because this movie is critically lauded like nobody's business. I'll have to watch it again, but I really don't want to. But when I do, if I still don't like it, then it's debate mode for sure. I give it no rating for now because I honestly didn't get a reaction to this movie.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes 9/10
The more I thought about it the more I loved this movie. I was thinking of an 8 or an 8.5. but when a movie really sticks with you I have to bump it up.
The trailers don't do the effects justice. The apes look incredible. You can tell they are CGI obviously, but its how they movie and how they act that makes them come to life. You can have something look photo realistic, but without the realism of the kinetics they will look as hallow and lifeless as they really are, but not in this film.
Caesar doesn't say much verbally or even in his sign that we will understand directly and yet still I really grew close to the character. His unknown place in the world becomes a strong confliction that is truly confusing to figure out. Where does the only ape equal to human intelligence belongs? No matter how civil he may act he can pull off his ape side making it all the more gray.
The only problem is the inherent nature of rooting for another species. Avatar may trick people, but I'm not ready to damn us. Not that Caesar or any of the apes asks for it. That's the main point this is not a war. The apes are creating their dominance just yet. It's merely freedom.
Also it has plenty of references and all are very clever. The only one that didn't stick was the most famous line of the series for obvious reasons. It's quoted and referenced to death. It was used in the 60s when dialogue could b emore wordy, but in the time of 2011 where "K" can be an entire sentence "get your dirty paws off me you damn dirty apes" just doesn't seem realistic. The rest of them are great though.

The Shawshank Redemption: 10 / 10.
This movie will stick to your ribs and set a fire in your bones. It was damn near perfect, and whatever flaws it had, I'll never find them. And congrats to the guy who played The Warden. He created one of the most sinister villains in all movie history. That bastard was evil. Shit this movie got me jacked up.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes: 8.5/10
I agree with alien and Cavey, except that I don't think the title is misleading. An essential step to freedom is the standing up part. The word "rise" is used merely to show that they took a stand as a first step toward liberation.
But yeah, this movie just became my favorite of the summer. I think it was everything it could've been on all but one front, which is the human front. The human aspect of the story was okay, but it wasn't great. There was some mistreatment of the apes that seemed forced for the sake of the plot. It did it's job, but simultaneously, I think it could've been better. What this movie does do right is justify everything that happens in its plot. There is no wasted time to be found in this film, and anyone who sees it will be entertained from beginning to end.

i never thought it was misleading. just addressing what others might believe. also the real crimes against apes are in the facilities not really the ape pet store or whatever you want to call it.
