Talk about anything SP related here. Though they've been around for a while, and the fact that they have huge cultural influence on music is common knowledge, I've only recently given them a thorough listen. Gish and Siamese Dream are awesome, but Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness is destroying my brain right now.

I recently kind of got back into them myself. I've always been a bit unsure about some of their lyrics but, a lot of the slower stuff on Mellon Collie and pretty much the whole Adore album are some of my favorites. Siamese Dream does have excellent stuff too though, I love the effects usage and the amount of overlays and such in songs like Soma and Today is ridiculous.

So Excellent created a thread about the Smashing Pumpkins the day after the day before All Hallows. I sense a conspiracy.

"The day after the day before"? Poppycock and rock candy is what I say! Make of that what you will.

No wait I surrender! It was merely the excitement from the Halloween festivities. Yes, that's it! Who will protect me when TEST resurfaces?

Today, Cherub Rock, 1979, and Zero are like the only four songs I really know by them lol. I may of heard Drown, The Beginning is the End is the Beginning, Tonight, Tonight and Bullet with Butterfly Wings before(I looked up some songs by them while I typed this and these stood out as familiar), I'd have to give em another listen to jog my memory

I mentioned this briefly in the Top Tens thread but, I've become convinced that By Starlight is one of their best, if not the best ever. It does some subtle, interesting things with a very simple progression, the effects, the way it's all put together and layered, the way it builds, it's incredible. I also feel like the fade out is implied to loop into the fade in, an idea I may or may not, borrow Something about that I really like a lot.

As I type this, I'm re-listening to By Starlight. I've listened to the whole album and its demo more times than I can remember this year, but I've never paid attention to the track listing. It's not usually how I listen to music, but I needed stuff to listen to while grading my students' papers. Funny how I missed out on so many minute details all those other times. The song really is something else.
My favorite is Cupid De Locke. The entire song is like a dream, there's this ethereal quality to it. I can't break it down technically, but yeah. There it is.
