For most of my life, I wasn't really much of a reader, but for my last few years I've really gotten more into it. Some of my more recent reads include The Time Machine, and The rescue (nicholas sparks). I read at a pretty high level. I never really counted all the books I read, and I don't care to. But I am a pretty decent reader when it comes down to it. And not knowing yellow submarine is irrelevant. It's like asking you to have heard of Mozart's Requiem. It's one of the most celebrated mozart pieces of all time and you hear it a lot. Yet you probably don't know it, now do you? I think knowing THAT is a lot more important than knowing yellow submarine. And agatha christie isnt some obscure author. She's the greatest mystery writer of all time. Are the beatles more important? Maybe. That's not the point though I agree with pretty much everything you said except that knowing Mozart's Requiem is more important than knowing Yellow Submarine. As much as I love classical music, I don't think one is more important than another.

But even then, I cant expect him to have heard of it. Even though, he probably has without knowing it.

And yeah, they're comparable as I'm pretty sure Yellow Submarine will be remembered 300 years from now like the Requiem is today. They're both classics, one more literally than another ( ), but I don't think Mozart's Requiem is more important despite the fact I think it's much more beautiful. But we've gotten into opinion, now.

Well, there was a time when I hadn't heard yellow submarine. I mean...I heard of it now, but before no. And yeah, true. But what I was judging by is individual impact. I don't know, I think the requiem had more, but again that's just me.

But Yellow Submarine was an instant success. Must've been the same for Mozart's Requiem... But when you look at Vivaldi for example, he died an unknown. He only was rediscovered about 100 years after his death.

Well, there's also cultural impact. How much it changed things if at all. I cant be sure of how much either one had. But you still have to see them for what they are.

Yeah, I'm sure we can push this much deeper, but I don't think we got the required knowledge to do so... Or well... At least... I know I don't.

i'm not the biggest music person i admit. i've heard lots of songs, but i don't always know their names.
i probably have heard mozart's requirm, but i can't put a name to a song at the moment.
i like and respect classical musica waaaaaaaaaaaay more then the average person. i guarantee that more people know yellow submarine and the beetles then mozart.
and your example of requim was a poor one considering you NEVER heard of yellow submarine before i made you listen to it. the beetles are insanely popular and your one of the few who are not into them and pretty ignorant in them.
most beetles songs are general knowledge things. mozart in general is, but i wouldn't expect exact titles of his songs in like the average trivia game.
i don't think you made a very good point by using a bad example.
like webber said one isn't more important than the other. but in modern culture the beetles are more relevant thats undeniable.

I'm not quite sure, I think the name 'Mozart' is more well known than the name 'Beatles' (worldwide).

Obviously I think the opposite. But I doubt everyone knows them. Elvis is probably better known because I know for sure that he is one of the most recognizable American in China.
