Beatles probably are more well known than Agatha Christie, yeah. But not knowing who Agatha Christie is a lack of rather important (or well, at least well-known) culture. I was comparing them to Mozart... And I did specify it was worldwide, not just in North America.

Is it really important if most people today don't know her. Let's say people with a decent to good culture should know her.

But you know me. I'm well cultured and a formally never heard of her. And I don't feel less of a person for not knowing. Don't feel like there is a hole in my knowledge.

I don't think Chaos feels he has a hole in his knowledge for not knowing Yellow Submarine either... Does that mean it's not? Not really. Don't get me wrong though, it's okay not to know something that's well-known, it's just that once you know it, you should learn to admit it is somewhat well-known.

Never! I do not think she is well known. Because she isn't.

Never! I do not think she is well known. Because she isn't. What if Chaos said Yellow Submarine wasn't well-known? Would that make it true? [whisper=caveboy0,webber3000]MSN, by the way.[/whisper]

I think enough people of our generation know her to be called well-known.

I really feel the same way you do about not knowing agatha christie. I dont care that I didnt know about yellow submarine, it's not important, no matter how important you want to make it. Sure it is well known. Oh well. At least I know it now, so it's become somewhat redundant. Still, it never was a big deal. And what's wrong with not really being into the beatles? Sure I like them, doesnt mean I have to know all of their songs. I dont have to listen to them if I dont want to (That's not to say I dont ever do it). They're just not my favorites. Overall, Im still well acquainted with the beatles, and I know some songs by them that you didnt know about. I'm fairly sure those were very well known too.
And on the mozart thing, it's hard to prove which is more well known. You can't say it with certainty unless you ask around. It would have to be one of those larger scale surveys

My point is that there is a difference in relevance between christiemeth and the beatles. That difference in relevance is why not knowing the beatles all that well is an issue over not knowing Christie.
I recall webber telling me that me not knowing Christie wasn't as bad as you not being able to name beatles songs and oh mr. Flip flop decided to change sides on the argument.
