I've changed a lot lately, I've been a lot more positive and open minded, and if I offended any fans of the twilight series with my rants, i'm sorry. I seen Kristen Stewart in a movie last night called ''What Just Happened'' with Robert DeNiro and thought she was a really good actress. I'm gonna give Twilight a chance, a lot of people I know are into it and there good people, so yeah. There ya go. You won't see me with spiked up Edward hair or anything obsessive, but yeah. I'll give it a whirl.

First thing, I don't think any of us here are Twilight fans. Secondly, we lost him!

I saw the title and I knew Lopli was the author.

I wouldn't call myself a Twilight fan, but I am a defendor. Not because I think it's good material, but rather, the opposition against the series is too much. As in, it actually annoys me a bit. Many of the complaints are so exaggerated that they almost fail to pertain to the series anymore. You wanna see something that really looks stupid, watch some previews for Teen Wolf. Anyway, someone should be there to balance the scales who isn't a Twilight fanatic, you know? I'm thinking you could be another one of those people. I have to warn you though, these movies fail on a couple levels. Even if you're going in with an open mind. The first movie is ridden with cheesiness. It has bad acting, bad writing, and terrible special effects. The second movie improves on all the flaws of the first, but the romance aspect is still hard to watch. The third movie is the best of the series so far, but once again, the romance is a little shaky. Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson have nailed their characters, but it's obvious that Tailor Lautner is NOT an actor. He may still grow into one, but his acting skills need a major overhaul. As for the books, those are actually okay reads. I know a lot of people who complain about the level of the writing's quality, but honestly, they'll put up with far worse for things they are interested in. Meyer really has done something interesting with vampire lore, in what she borrows and what she creates. The same goes for her take on wolf people. You may end up hating some things about the series. I know I do. But overall, I think you'll be surprised with how much you're entertained. So, I have to ask you. Who are these people you know that like this stuff? You reading the books for a girl? I did, but I admit that I could've stopped before I finished the series...

Damn... Well... I guess you're the only one here who's allowed to emit valid opinions.
I'm no hater or devil's advocate. I usually kind of ignore things I don't care about.

Oh, I'm sure someone else here has at least seen one of the twilight movies.
To be clear though, I consider the Twilight series to be a subpar romance drama with action that consistently gets better. For what little action the third movie had, it was great (the action, that is).

i've only watched a guy read and summarize the story. the first book seem relatively poorly written combined with the basic ideas of the novel that hooks all insecure young and old women. you have a recipe for success.
the books main failing appears that on a technical level she's not a good writer. there are redundancies and awkward structures. like the book never explains what bella looks like in its first 400 and possilby entire book. the only time she's described is when she describers he mother "i look like my mother, but not wrinkly and with longer hair"
thats it. what kind of writing is that?
not to mention some of the ideas of the mythos get kind of contradictory. like edward's sister who can see the future but only as the current path is going, which is kind of well not seeing the future.
its like saying i know that car is going straight… until it turns.
also bella apprently is a whiny bitch with no real reason to be unhappy. she's never told she has to live in this town, every guy wants her, and she's depressed?
beyond that the relationship is a really bad one when you look at it and it romanticizes it. it romanticizes a relationship where a man is essentially dating a steak. wants her but doens't want to hurt her while the girl is all over him. she wants to date him, she wants to have sex with him, and marry him. all the while edward puts her through emotional and physical harm.
not to mention he's 400 years old. bella is remarkably uninteresting making the relationship make less sense.
but from what i know the series definitely has a building supernatural world that escalates the battles.
if i learn anything from twilight mania its that woman apparently want dangerous and hard to get men. if i can pull that off the bitches will be all over me.

I think I understand your inside joke. May I "out" it? lollll Here's my attempt:
I'm guessing this girl is an Edward fan since Edward is in need of a tan. My understanding is a little hazy with the next part because it is the wolves that "beat the shit" out of Laurent (who looks like he could be a member of the Black Eyed Peas). But that's my guess.
Am I close?

Not a hater of Twilight. Not to say it's a good series because it's not but it's an interesting concept I suppose. But obviously aimed at teen girls so you can't really blame it. I don't even hate the obsessing fans. If they want to obsess over something so much that they want to get a huge tattoo of whatever team they're on or name their kid after one of the characters, go ahead and realize a few years later what an idiot you were. The thing I hate about it is how it gets so popular to the point that companies jump on it as fast as they can and WHORE THE SHIT out of everything associated with it. They get celebrities and talk shows in on the big joke forcing thousands of bad parodies and jokes about sparkly vampires that just never seem to get old to them. It gets to the point where no matter where you look you hear about it. I hate to bring Bieber into this but the same goes for him. The kid's a good singer. Not a fan of his music in the slightest but there's no point to hate the kid just for getting noticed. But I also agree with mr. excellent that the haters are just as annoying as the obsessed fans. I think the only person I really don't approve of getting famous is that Rebecca Black chick. She got famous for all the wrong reasons and there are so many talented singers and bands that go completely unnoticed but then people like Rebecca get featured in a Katy Perry music video. Again, don't hate her but I think it's ridiculous that she has so much attention when even if she become a singer she'll always just be known as that friday girl. Suppose I kinda went off track from the original topic but still.

I read the first book, and watched the first movie. I will say, the first movie is just a bore. There are very few redeeming qualities about it. Bad acting, cheesy romance, stupid characters. It's just a bad movie.
Now, the first book is not a bad read. It's entertaining at the very least. Meyer is not necessarily a bad writer. She has her way with words, and she can tell a story. Her weak point, in my opinion, was making the whole thing believable. I mean come on, Edward was kinda creepy. Not the best book I've ever read, but the bad rep it gets is unwarranted.
Now I hear that the first book is actually the weakest book in the series, so that may be enough of a reason for me to read on. I just haven't really found the motivation for it.
