I regret not reading Secret Invasion. Fear Itself, not so much. Haven't heard much about it.
But this? This sounds pretty amazing. Matt Fraction and Brian Michael Bendis are two of my favorites. Though I'm not a fan of JrJr.s character drawings (except for Spidey), I do love his sense of story telling. Count me in.

seems like to me that marvel is floundering a bit on making x-men relevant so they just have them fight each other and now other teams.

I think First Class's success could be a factor as well; it revitalized a movie series some had given up on and they may have gotten some new fans who wanted to read the comics. Anyway, they got me on board the X-Train with Schism/Regenesis. Wolverine and the X-Men and Uncanny X-Men (the main Wolverine/Cyclops team books) are on my pulllist. I'm glad I added them; Marvel did say X-Men would play a major part next year, ie AvX.
While this does look interesting and awesome, I'm a little wary going into this. Fear Itself disappointed me; I mean, they killed Bucky but then revealed he's still alive and will become the Winter Soldier, and Thor died and I just didn't care. Seriously, how many times has Thor died and come back? Besides that, how many times have we seen Avengers vs. X-Men in the past?
I'll read it but I'm hoping this pays off.
A couple other notes: - With Wolverine, Storm, and Beast involved, I wonder whose side they'll be on. From the looks of it, it seems they'll be fighting Cyclops' team since Hope is the target. I had a feeling Wolverine's team would be working with the Avengers more since he and Beast are already members. But I wonder about Storm since she just joined the team and is on Cyclops' side. -Just a thought, but maybe the after effects of this will be Marvel's own reboot ala The New 52. They seem to be emphasizing the fact that the Phoenix brings about death and rebirth, so what if this happens to the Marvel Universe? Just a theory, probably won't happen, but I totally called it if we get news of this next year.

the way bucky came back actually made sense. i enjoyed the issue a lot and if they just gave us the perspective in the first place it would have been a cool plot twist, but seemingly had no place in the story. there was a good story in fear itself, but nothing worth my time.
i don't care if all the saturation of x-men comics are good this just seems like a gimmick to me. its not like the x-men have never butted heads with the avengers before.

its not like the x-men have never butted heads with the avengers before. I pointed that out too. Come to think of it, we've been watching Marvel's heroes in general fighting amongst themselves for almost 6 years now. Civil War with the Avengers, Schism with the X-Men, and now this. It's getting a little tiring. The only break we've gotten from it was last year's Heroic Age. I get it, they're arguing over different ways to handle something, but don't let it break away from the goal of fighting actual bad guys. I'm not saying it doesn't make interesting stories, but let's give it a rest for awhile.

I certainly am preferring DC more lately with the New 52. I'm reading more than I did before Flashpoint. Again, whatever Marvel has planned with AvX will hopefully pay off like Siege did and everyone will be friends again by the end. And maybe we'll get a break from events for a little while. Another note: I feel like the X-Men will become one again after this and it'll have something to do with Cyclops. Maybe he'll be killed, break away from the team and become a Magneto like villain, or just gets taken down a notch and he and Logan will work things out and work the new school together.

marvel.com/news/story/17907/avengers_vs_x-men_launch_partiesAvengers VS X-Men Launch Parties Find out how you can celebrate this landmark event with your comics retailer
Marvel’s making sure all comic book stores worldwide are armed for the biggest super hero war of all time with the Avengers VS X-Men Launch Parties on Tuesday, April 3 at 8pm (local time), one day before the first issue goes on-sale. In addition to being the first in line to purchase AVENGERS VS X-MEN #1, fans will also be able to receive special items exclusive to these parties, specific to the team—Avengers or X-Men—supported by the store.
To ensure these parties are the biggest sales success of 2012, each retailer opting into this event will receive a free Avengers VS X-Men Party Kit from Marvel, containing exclusive promotional materials. In order to receive this party kit, every retailer just needs to choose a team—Avengers or X-Men—and will receive special bonuses for their allegiance.
“We’ve never had a bigger story than Avengers VS X-Men and we’re backing retailers with the biggest incentives you’ve ever seen through the Avengers VS X-Men Launch Parties,” said David Gabriel, Marvel Senior Vice-President of Sales. “Whether it’s advertising, promotional material or limited edition variant covers, every one of our valued retailer partners will be able to get the word out to both their regular customers and new fans about this comic event and the exciting Avengers VS X-Men Launch Parties. Some stores will choose to side with the Avengers and some will side with the X-Men, but I can guarantee one thing—Marvel will make sure all of them have everything they need to make AVENGERS VS X-MEN #1 their top selling comic of the year.”
All retailers who opt into the parties & choose a team will receive the following as part of the Avengers VS X-Men Party Kit:
• Avengers VS X-Men Program, a free comic previewing the upcoming event
• Avengers VS X-Men Postcards
• Avengers VS X-Men Customizable Flyer
• Avengers VS X-Men Customizable Press Release
• Avengers VS X-Men Backlist Sales
• Avengers VS X-Men mini posters
• Avengers VS X-Men promo items
• AVENGERS VS X-MEN #1 Advance Screening Copy, delivered to retailers in late March 2012
• Avengers VS X-Men Party Lithographs
• Mass media promotion around the launch of AvX and the associated parties
• Promotion of parties to Marvel fan base via Marvel.com, Twitter and Facebook
• An additional discount on the Road to Avengers VS X-Men Trade Paperback
And these same retailers will receive complimentary team specific versions—based on their allegiance—of the following:
• Exclusive AVENGERS VS X-MEN #1 Spotlight Variant specific to the team supported by the store
• Free Avengers VS X-Men mini-posters showing store allegiance
• Free Avengers VS X-Men Party Tickets
• Free Avengers or X-Men Team Pins
• Free Avengers VS X-Men in-store signage and shelf-talkersFirst off, not really digging that poster. You basically got all the Avenger movie stars with Spidey; obviously for promotional reasons. Plus, I can't really see Wolverine working with Cyclops' "extinction team." That aside, I hope my comic shop participates in this, but I can't speak for them. If they do, I hope they go with the Avengers (as I would).

Apparently we're going to have
Iron Man vs. Magneto
Thor vs. Storm
and Spidey vs. Iceman.
I give Iron Man the win, since I've read somewhere that his suit has been impervious to magnetism for some time now. Should be a crazy fight though.
I give Thor the win because he's Thor, but apparently Storm's power levels have been ridiculously increased depending on what story you're reading. You guys would probably know more about that than me.
Iceman vs. Spidey is a tough call. People over at CBM say that Iceman rarely lives up to his Omega potential, but when he does he's practically immortal or whatever. If he starts screwing with the oxygen or doing some other extreme elemental shit that Spider-man can't dodge, then Spidey is doomed. Otherwise, I think Spider-man will shatter Drake with a good rabbit punch.

There's also Black Widow vs. Psylocke.
I was gonna post the teasers, but was gonna wait til Marvel got through them all this week.
As for who will win these matches, I don't really want to make predictions. I'd like to think they aren't fighting to kill, but I think Cyclops may be willing to cross that line. Besides that, you know that by the end of the series, they'll all team up to fight the Phoenix and everyone will get along again.
If I had to pick a side though, I would pick the Avengers. From what I've seen, it's Cyclops' X-Men that the Avengers are fighting. Reading both W&TXM and Uncanny, I'm preferring Wolverine's team right now as he seems to be more Charles with the rebuilding of the school and all, while Cyclops is like Magneto, doing whatever it takes to preserve the mutant race. Since Wolverine is part of the Avengers and his side of the X-Men is willing to accept their help, I would say Wolverine, and possibly more of his team, will work with the Avengers, especially since I don't see him going back to Cyclops; if he does I will be very surprised. It just seems to me that the Avengers are trying to protect everyone while Cyclops' X-Men are more focused on the mutants, which will make him uneasy to hand over Hope, and that's what will lead to this battle.

Well, here are all the fights for round 1: Psylocke vs. Black Widow Iron Man vs. Magneto Storm vs. Thor Spider-Man vs. Iceman Rogue vs. Ms. Marvel Luke Cage vs. Beast Hulk vs. Emma Frost Daredevil vs. Archangel Spider-Woman vs. Gambit Colossus vs. Thing Hawkeye vs. Cyclops Wolverine vs. Captain America Okay, color me speechless. Wolverine's siding with the X-Men. I guess he and Cyclops will work things out, or at least a temporary truce. I'm still on the Avengers' side. What about you guys?
