What If? collider.com/marvels-what-if-announces-massive-voice-cast-of-mcu-stars-jeffrey-wright-as-the-watcher/The cast list is too long for me to mention it, but color me excited. As this will be Marvel Studios' first soiree into animation, who the hell knows what we have in store? My hope is that this is like Black Mirror: Each episode is strong enough to stand on its own narratively, has strong writing, and great acting. I don't want it to be as depressing as Black Mirror (that show's title says it all), but it's a great example of anthology story telling. Considering that The Beyonder is going to be telling these stories, I wonder if it'll have more of a Twilight Zone feel? **I wonder, if Stan Lee were still with us, could he have played the role of the Beyonder? Probably not, considering that all of his cameos were given a character to tie into with GOTG vol.2, but it's fun to consider, even if only briefly.

I got some ideas of what stories they could do: * What if Betty Ross became the Hulk? * What if Captain America was never found? * What if Loki took control of Nick Fury? * What if Tony Stark used Extremis? * What if Hank Pym went subatomic? (instead of Janet) * What if the Avengers remained assembled? (ie if Zemo's plan failed) * What if Spider-Man joined the Avengers? (pre-Infinity War)

Nice. What if... Quicksilver didn't die in Infinity War? What if Ultron succeeded and humans had to go underground (literally* and figuratively)? What if Tony had succeeded and we had an interstellar planetary defense system before Infinity War? What would that have looked like?
What if... Wakanda ventured into space 40-50 years before the space race and developed advanced colonies on other planet's moons within our solar system? (That would actually be something cool for the mainline MCU. What they'd do with that, I dunno.)
*and latitudinally... and loterally as well

This is fun! Off the top of my head: - What if Tony Stark was never ambushed and kept on manufacturing weapons?
- What if Captain Marvel joined the Avengers the first time around?
- What if Tony never went to recruit Spider-Man?
- What if Tony's PTSD got worse and he succumbed to alcoholism?
- What if Bucky killed Cap at the end of Winter Soldier?
- What if Ant Man escaped from the quantum realm 10, 15, 20, etc. years after the snap?

Got another one: What if Abomination joined the Avengers? For those who don't remember the "Consultant" short film, the World Security Council wanted Blonsky for the Avenger Initiative, so Coulson and Sitwell used Stark to sabotage those plans; maybe said sabotage didn't work out so well.

What If The Decimation (Snap) Never Happened? What If The Blip Never Happened? ^^^^ I would be surprised if these two aren't addressed I feel like this could be addressed in other stories, just going off of Strange saying there was only one victory in all the fourteen million futures he saw. The scenario where the Avengers never split up in Civil War would be most likely, as the team being spread out could be seen as a crucial element to Thanos' victory.

Oh I forgot one: What if Hulk never left Earth? How would his relationship with Widow progress? Which side would he take in Civil War? How would Thor fare during Ragnarok? Lot of potential in that one.

I could get behind the Decimation never happening, but I honestly don't know how we could make that scenario more interesting than the one we actually got (or even equally as interesting). Did you have something in mind lopli, like, another direction the MCU would've went had they succeeded in stopping Thanos before he snapped the first time? As for the blip...
I think in a way, Avengers Endgame sort of addressed what it would it would be like without the blip. Let me rephrase that, yes, the blip eventually happened, but the Russos really allowed the audience to live with the idea that the problem potentially could never be fixed. As an audience, we all knew it was coming, but they really let us live with the ramifications of the snap in a way that Hollywood rarely allows blockbusters to do.
I mean, they allowed 5 years to go by. This was after our heroes regrouped, found Thanos and then killed him. It was like they were telling the audience, the best we'd ever get was revenge. People moved on, the streets were eerily quiet, neighborhoods in big metropolitan cities (ie San Francisco) became overgrown, people joined support groups to talk about the families they'd lost. In one of the support groups, people talked about how they missed the Mets, indicating that maybe basic luxuries like professional sports had gone by the way side. The more I think about it, the happier I am with the Russos decision to do this. This is actually a complaint I've had about blockbuster films, they don't let you live with the consequences of world ending actions. The Andy Serkis Planet of the Apes films were great about dealing with that, and even the first Pacific Rim did a good job exploring the culture of a post Kaiju world. Now, we have a Marvel film that allowed for that to happen as well.

On that topic, you know what would be an interesting thing Marvel could do? A docu-drama series taking a look at families affected by the snap, how they dealt with the loss of their loved one(s) and how everyone involved react to their return five years later. No major Marvel characters, just normal people who reside in the MCU.

After Age of Ultron, I had this crazy idea about a Hulk in Space movie, like Gravity. I became so obsessed about it that I wrote an overlong post somewhere here on the boards. Now with these "What Ifs", I've basically resurrected it, but in a modified form.
What if... -Hulk became "Professor Hulk" as he was in Endgame, but instead it happened while he was in deep space after Age of Ultron? Get this, he still ends up on Sakaar, but he uses his brains and brawn to organize and lead the revolution Korg tried and failed at so many times? Thor still finds him, but by this time he's a benevolent leader.
Another way of doing Hulk in space would be Hulk landing on another savage planet, uninhabited by intelligent life though. The struggle between Hulk and Banner really takes center stage here, as both aspects desperately need each other to survive the harsh alien landscape. The movie would be like Castaway but with some King Kong elements in there where he's battling giant creatures. I'm imagining he's near an ocean or something while on this planet. The entire time, the Hulk struggles to cope with his solitude, but ends "happily" as he finds inner peace and balance. The after credits reveal another Avenger porting in or washing up on shore. They aren't lost, but rather, they've found him.
-Hydra unleashed all of their cryoslept Winter Soldiers after their failure in 2014's Captain America sequel. Agents of Shield's season 4 tackled what it would be like if Hydra ruled the world, but this would be a little more Man in the High Castle where it's not a matrix simulation, but more of a "this s*** really happened..." In this scenario, I see Wakanda emerging as an opposing force, and half of the planet is aligned with them. Which half? I dunno...
-Captain America and The Red Skull both ported away to Vormir at the end of "The First Avenger". There, they acted as the good and evil sides of the conscience to others who ventured out in search of the soul stone. This episode would play out with the two eventually become friends, having lived a life time with each other in isolation from everyone else sans the occasional visitor. Maybe they could have a dynamic like Crowley and Aziraphale in Good Omens. Two guys on opposing ends, doing a job, even if their own convictions differ from that of the mission.
I don't know why, but all of these excite me like nobody's business. I actually like the second Hulk "What If?" more than the first. :S

I just think it would be neat to see what would happen if Thanos got super close but then Thor actually killed him in Infinity War. Then what happens?

You know what, I'm starting to feel that. Let's see...
Gamora and Vision stay dead probably. The world would probably be thriving like no other time in the history of civilized man. T'Challa had opened up Wakanda's services before s*** went south right? I bet we would've been flourishing with their help. Tony and Pepper probably would've had their daughter either way. Ant Man would've been able to see his daughter grow up, maybe given her some training. I think Thor would've still become restless after a while, just for different reasons. I think he eventually would've went off with the Guardians one way or another. Banner wouldn't have become Professor Hulk, maybe he and Natasha would've worked things out? Time travel would never have been invented, but that would've been okay. Except Captain America would've never gone off and become old man Cap and Sam wouldn't have received the SHIELD. I imagine Bucky is living a peaceful life on a Wakandan farm. Hawkeye would've lived a peaceful life on his farm. Nick Fury would still be doing what he's doing in space with the Skrulls, and Captain Marvel wouldn't have ever had to take time to go planet hopping in search of a solution to the Snap. What she would've done in that time is a mystery to us still, but it probably involves tracking down the Skrulls and reuniting them. Dr. Strange... God knows what he would've been up to. His possibilities extend so much further than literally everyone else. Spider-man would be in college now, and we'd finally get to see a proper version of his college self too. Probably would've met Harry, Norman, and Gwen, Conners, etc. He'd be more classic Spidey than the MCU had ever shown him before. The Guardians would still be doing Guardians' s*** I would imagine. They've taken hard losses before, but I think they would have carried on eventually.
