Maybe it's animated or maybe it is a take on Venom where Spider-Man isn't needed.

Pretty sure it's supposed to be live action, and we already have the animated movie coming out in December that year. And honestly, I don't see how they can do Venom without Spider-Man.
Unless...what if they make it a prequel of sorts and base it on the Ultimate version, focusing on Peter and Eddie's fathers creating the cure for cancer and their problems, eventually leading to Brock wearing the suit himself and making it a kind of horror film. If done right, they could still tie it in with the MCU. However, after the Amazing series, people might be kind of tired of the big deal that was made about Peter's father.

I like your concept bib. Sounds like a Rogue One type scenario, but in correct order. I was thinking that maybe since Marvel is using a live action Spidey, they would strictly do animated flicks just to differentiate and avoid confusion. If it winds up being a separate continuity and we have two live action Spider-Men,how confusing would that be?

I don't like that Alex Kurtzman is writing/directing it or whatever. I read somewhere that he was attached to either do one or both. The details are fuzzy, but he's still attached. The man is hit and miss tho, so I hope it's not true. I say, they should've given the project to Drew Goddard. He'd knock it out of the park. He's got Cabin in the Woods, The Martian, tv's Angel series from the early to late 2000s, and he was the S1 Daredevil Show Runner.

Venom came about in the 80s, which was twenty some odd years into Spider-Man's history, so with that in mind, I think since the MCU is doing classic villains first, the Venom movie should be set in the distant future. That way, we have an already established Venom and Spider-Man is referenced in name only, and all of the events of the MCU Spider-Man movies will slowly lead up to it and fit the pieces together to explain the story in Venom

Venom (and Silver & Black) seemingly connected to the MCU: www.cbr.com/spider-man-homecoming-same-universe-as-venom/“Well, those movies will all take place in the world that we’re now creating for Peter Parker,” Pascal said while sitting beside Feige. “They’ll all be adjuncts to it. They may be different locations, but it will still all be in the same world. They will all be connected to each other as well.” I still have worries about this. While these movies could be their own thing like the Netflix series, if anything, this sounds more like a "wait and see" approach. I kind of want Feige to clarify this, if Pascal was just trying to save face after the scrutiny these plans have been getting.

The way I've been reading it from the video, I believe she was trying to save face. It's kind of crazy how awkward most producers are in these kinds of interviews. Feige is special in that he knows exactly what to say or what not to say, when he wants to say it or not say it. The contrast between all of the producers over at Sony is stunning, quite frankly. This is the second time now that she's kind of said something in an interview for this movie that caused people to worry. While I know that we are living in an age where the hysteria alarms are triggered over spilled milk, I still feel that Sony is far behind when it comes to how they deal with the public. Not every producer can be Feige, but I feel that the people over at Schmoes Know, or Collider Movie Talk, or Screen Rant, or Cinemablend, or even some of us could do a better job at explaining the plan going forward. So far as we know, Spider-man is shared, and so are the villains that appear in his MCU based movies. The spinoffs based around Spider-man characters, and not focusing solely on Spider-man himself aren't connected to the MCU at the present time. If they can prove to do well on their own, then changes TBA. Until then, they aren't connected, but no one is supposed to say anything explicitly to keep all options open. Marvel Studios gets this, but Sony either doesn't get it or are just being really weasely and trying to weasel their way in by throwing things out there to the public in interviews to see what the reaction is. It's kind of frustrating. It's also frustrating how every now and then they talk about their relationship with Kevin when he was starting out, almost as though they take credit in shaping his experience. He's clearly surpassed them, but there's like this 'mentor' vibe they're trying to give off while simultaneously screwing up their joint interviews. In a way, they do share some responsibility for shaping him, but it just feels weird. I dunno.
