This might be the last film to feature Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult: radaronline.com/exclusives/2013/12/jennifer-lawrence-boyfriend-nicholas-hoult-prisoners-x-men-franchise/Apparently Singer made the announcement without telling the cast and Lawrence and Hoult are annoyed because they have to reschedule their filming plans in order to accommodate a July shoot for this film. Lawrence in particular is losing millions out of potencial roles she could be doing if it wasn't for this movie and wants out of the franchise.

That source is like, totes a gossip news rag: "They are not fun movies for her to make, and the only thing she likes about them is hanging out with some of those other actors-especially her boyfriend, Nicholas!"
Still, I can't see Jennifer Lawrence wanting to do these films forever like Jackman. I'm not so sure about Nicholas Hoult.

Singer: Film will be set in the 80's, more of a First Class sequel, no original trilogy actors involved: www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=51479I'm really hoping that since it's the 80's, we'll see how Cyclops, Jean, and Storm were recruited, which is what I thought First Class would have been.

So this is an interesting quote from Simon Kinberg at WonderCon: www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/JoshWildingNewsAndReviews/news/?a=98447"[DOFP] and the Dark Phoenix are two most famous stories. We could have done better with the Dark Phoenix. This is our attempt to right the wrongs [of] the past." So this gets me thinking. We know Apocalypse will be set in the 80's and feature younger versions of characters. I think there's a good chance we'll see young Jean using her Phoenix powers. Xavier did say in X3 that he had to put up mental barriers in Jean's mind to keep the Phoenix at bay; obviously he had a reason. With the idea of it being a "disaster movie", having both Apocalypse and the Phoenix involved could very well make it so. Plus, if I recall correctly, there is a connection between Apocalypse and the Phoenix in the Ultimate comics.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but considering that this next bit of information could profoundly effect the future of this project in a negative way, I figure it's worth mentioning. A couple of days ago, a young man came forward with allegations of sexual assault against Singer. He claims the assault took place back in 1999, but it is becoming a really big thing. Bryan Singer has dropped out of promotion for DOFP all together, and while his lawyer maintains that these allegations are completely without merit, this negative publicity could mean the end of Singer's run on X-Men. If the allegations are proven to be true in court, then Singer's career is over. Here's the thing, I'm all about never blaming the victim. The problem is determining whether this young man is actually a victim. Having been a big fan of Singer's earlier X-Men films (they were a big part of my childhood), I sincerely hope it's not true. I will see DOFP regardless, considering all of the hard work that the rest of the cast and crew put in, but this is some seriously disheartening news indeed. www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/notyetamovie/news/?a=98406

I'm aware of this, as it's been discussed in the News Thread. Since we don't know all the details, like you, I sincerely hope none of this is true and that it doesn't hurt DOFP or affect the franchise's future and Singer's involvement. I mean, aside from The Wolverine, he's been behind all the good X-Men movies in some way and I doubt Fox would want to lose that. I think it's just a little convenient that these allegations would arise just a month before DOFP's release. But I'm considering him innocent until proven guilty, and as such, I would like to think that the future plans of the X-Men series haven't changed. Singer just better hope his proof of being in Toronto holds up.
But, just for the sake of being prepared, say Singer does become uninvolved with Apocalypse, whether by his decision or a court ruling, you think Matthew Vaughn would be up for taking the director seat again?

I probably should've checked that out before I posted. To answer your question, I don't think he would. He has come back to franchises as a producer, and in the case of X-Men he also helped to write the follow up, but he has never come back as a director. I feel pretty confident right now about DOFP, so optimistically, I'd like him to return. However, if he doesn't, I wouldn't mind seeing Vaughn return. I'd love to see his take on an X-Men film, without being rushed through the process. Give the man 2 years to make the movie to see what he can do.

But if not Singer or Vaughn, who do you think could take over? I mean, I would hope Fox wouldn't pull another Brett Ratner just to make a release date.

I wish Fox would have left the FF alone. Josh Trank would've been my next choice, but he's otherwise engaged. Initially I was iffy on that for him, but seriously, if Webb can do what he's doing with TASM 2, why the heck not?
Other candidates could be... maybe Neill Blomkamp. I know Elysium wasn't received as well as District 9, but we've seen what the man is capable of. Duncan Jones, director of Moon and Source Code could also be a really good candidate, sci-fi being a common theme here.

Well at the moment, it seems like plans are moving forward as planned. DOFP is getting good reviews and is on track to make $125 million its first weekend, which means the scandal isn't hurting things. Plus, it's been confirmed we'll see young Cyclops, Jean, and Storm. And now for some interesting news: Channing Tatum has been pretty much confirmed to play Gambit. www.superherohype.com/news/302131-x-men-producer-lauren-shuler-donner-confirms-channing-tatum-as-gambit#/slide/1On one hand, I thought he was badass in "White House Down", but on the other, I can't help but think of his role in "This is the End" and look at him the same. This is probably going to be a Batffleck situation; a wait and see situation.
