Sequel to X-Men Apocalypse to come out 2018 with Bryan Singer "at the helm" www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/JoshWildingNewsAndReviews/news/?a=127048So we can take this report with a grain of salt since it's not official yet, but let's assume it's true. Does "at the helm" mean Bryan Singer is going to be directing the next X-Men? I enjoyed Days of Future Past as much as the next, but I wanted some fresh blood on the series. First Class was a Matthew Vaughn picture, but it felt less like one of his movies than say Kingsmen, KickAss, or Stardust if you know what I mean. It definitely had Singer's fingerprints all over it, which for me isn't a bad thing. But come on, isn't it time to let someone else take a stab at the franchise? It seems like Fox is ready to go full "comic book" with the franchise finally, which is in keeping with the current climate in super hero movies. With that in mind, I want to see what someone else can do in the director's chair.

I get what you're saying. While Singer does well with the X-Men, it was proven with The Wolverine that he doesn't need to be involved to make a successful X-Men film. Deadpool also looks amazing. I don't know. If not a director, I could see Singer being for the X-Men what Kevin Feige is for the MCU.

I read somewhere that Singer's X2 scribes were the ones who penned Apocalypse. X2 is still my favorite X-Men movie, so I could totally change my mind after the movie comes out. We'll see.

It looks good, but after the Civil War and BvS trailers, I'm a little underwhelmed by this.

I dunno if it'll be as good as First Class, but it looks pretty damn sick!

It looks good, but after the Civil War and BvS trailers, I'm a little underwhelmed by this. I kind of feel the same, but I think this will be the best movie overall out of the 3.

After watching it a few more times, I'm appreciating it a little more. I kind of think back to the first teasers for First Class and DOFP, and those didn't show too much either. Please tell me I'm not the only one who loves this poster.

It's a good poster for sure.
The more I watch the trailer the better it is. I wasn't as big a fan of the B v S trailer, but even though the cut of the Civil War trailer was more exciting for me, I still think this will be the better movie. I certainly enjoyed DOFP more than First Class, so if this movie delivers at the same pacing as X2, it could be a new franchise favorite for me.

X-Men Apocalypse: superbowl tv spot
Holy cow. All of this looks incredible. Cool as the Civil War trailers have been, this feels worthy of the title Apocalypse. This certainly looks as though the most is at stake. As an aside, I'd like to think that if Magneto is allowed to keep this power upgrade, they could eventually do an Asteroid M story arc.

Could 2016 be a repeat of 2014? An amazing Captain America movie followed up by an arguably better X-Men movie? For my money, I can't possibly be more excited for any super hero movie than I am for Civil War (Spider-man and BP and what not), however, this trailer was more exciting for me. The acting and the action have never looked this strong in an X-Men movie. This looks special.
EDIT: Just watched it again, and yeah, I definitely like this trailer better. They're making call backs to some of the more memorable lines spoken by Charles and Eric, they're giving us a little more of a tease of some fan favorites from the last 2 movies, the music is kicking ass. Oscar Isaac's Apocalypse voice is really strong, Michael Fassbender is captivating in his brief time on screen here. Dare I say it, he plays a magnetic Magneto...* Hot damn, this trailer is up there. Best trailer of the Apocalypse trailer/tv spot releases so far.
*shoot me, shoot me please. Just not now, I still need to see Dr.Strange at the end of the year.

Funny thing about this X-Men franchise. Its been around longer than the MCU, but it doesn't go as deep in terms of actual X-Men films. The same can be said of characterization. I've always felt Singer handles the ensemble well, and for the most part it seems like the GA agrees. His trouble comes from fans of the source material, which to be fair, I think their criticisms are valid. I've read so few X-Men comics, I'm not even a casual reader. Yet by reading the first 8 or so issues of Joss Whedon's run on Astonishing X-Men, I can already see how Singer's versions of the characters pale in comparison (save for Prof. X and Magneto). While I enjoy Singer's X-Men movies (they became part of my nostalgia bank long before I picked up an X-Men comic), I can understand why long time fans would have a hard time looking past his interpretation and simply enjoy the narrative presented.
All that said, I think this one will have a great story. Characterization may be stronger here than it has ever been, which at the very least is not a bad thing. For all the complaints about Singer not being true to the characterization from the source material, I'm happy to see continued development for characters he has established in his movie verse. With regard to action, I'm not sure any movie will compare to Civil War this year. However, the action in each consecutive X-Men movie always outdoes the prior, so with that being the case, I'm excited for what's to come. It'll definitely be different than the team dynamic in Civil War, and their powers are certainly going to look different. Man, I'm feeling giddy.
