So, what are your guys' thoughts on this season so far? At the moment, I'm just as "impressed" with season 2's offerings as I was of season 1's. This isn't a show that demands binging, but I'm glad to have something rather than nothing I suppose. Here's hoping the show continues to build and gets stronger.

I'm still liking it. I was happy to see them bring in an obscure character like Carolyn Trainor, and that Ock's good guy ruse didn't last that long since it was so obvious he was going to go bad. And as happy as I am to see Eddie on the show, it's a little concerning he hasn't said a single word. I'm hoping it's just slow build-up and his Venom turn will pay off. I also kind of like how they updated Peter's job with the Bugle, being a videographer like in the MCU rather than a photographer. It's modern but still in line with the character. Also, it's just nice to have a Jameson who has reason to not like Spider-Man. Remember how in Ultimate he just hated Spider-Man for no reason, and yet praised the black suit Spider-Man when Harry had the symbiote? Man that was dumb.
But speaking of which, I don't understand how some people hate this show more than Ultimate. I mean, it's not perfect, but they did just forget all about Ultimate?

Maybe the people that hate this and prefer Ultimate are those whose only exposure to the character is from Ultimate Spider-Man? Either way, USM wasn't a great show, I'm not sure how anyone could've developed a strong sentimental attachment to it.

I don't know why I didn't post this earlier, but I actually missed out on the final episodes of season 1. I believe I missed out on Spider-Island part 5, which is episodes 23-25. Anyway, I did catch up on all of season 2's episodes. I agree with you BIB that Eddie Brock was done pretty well in this. There's still no romance in the series, which is a little disappointing. It's set in a high school, and all of the characters (male, female, what have you) are smart, capable, and potentially compatible. This is supposed to be a back to the basics approach, which includes some form of romance, so what are they waiting for? Just saying.

Yeah, I think Eddie and Venom paid off. It was really creepy with Eddie just showing up in Peter's room, and there was quite a horror aspect to his actions, like his kidnappings of Gwen, Max, and May. My only gripe is that they weren't really consistent with Venom's voice, specifically the "We" and "I" uses. I mean, it's kind of cool to give Eddie and the symbiote their own personalities, but considering he was covered in the symbiote most of the time, it wasn't clear which one was talking; the use of "We" is unique for the character, and saying "We are Venom" every so often isn't enough in my opinion. But I did like Eddie's last line when they put the symbiote into a coma: "I'm nothing without you." It's not as poetic as "It only loves me for the hate" from Spectacular, but it still says a lot about the tragedy of Eddie's character.
The romance aspect hasn't been prevalent as I had hoped since the beginning, but I'm still enjoying Peter's social interactions. It's still more than we ever got with Ultimate.
On another note, I hope Jameson will still be around. I mean, he did fire Peter, but we know from past interpretations that happens often. It's just that this series does do things its own way, so it's up in the air. Maybe he'll hire Peter back after he sells Spider-Man footage elsewhere.

Yeah, Jameson was more complimentary of Peter Parker than what we usually see in these Spider-Man series. Granted, it was used as a mechanism to build Brock's hate of Parker, but still. What I liked about their portrayal of Brock is how capable a journalist he can actually be. He's a character who, with the right motivations, could really make a difference in the world. Yet he allows his insecurities to drive his actions. I was super impressed with how he broke into the laboratory to steal the symbiote. If this show goes on long enough, I wouldn't mind seeing him eventually become an anti hero.

After a SUPER long hiatus, season two will resume this fall with the Superior Spider-Man. Also, season three has been confirmed with the subtitle "Maximum Venom". www.cbr.com/marvels-spider-man-maximum-venom/I'm surprised. I thought for sure season two was going to be it since the other Marvel shows seem to be wrapping up. Well I'm happy we're getting at least one more season. Still, I wonder if Marvel has plans for other animated series besides Spidey.

Well that answers the question as to whether Ock could access Peter's memories. I think Robbie Daymond's doing a good job channeling Scott Menville's Octavius.

Man, I think I missed a whole lot of this show. I was keeping up via Hulu Beta, but once UFC switched from Fox to ESPN+, I got the app to watch my fights and dropped Beta. I'd love to watch this series, but Beta is too expensive for me to keep it just for that. At some point, I'll catch up I suppose.

Wow, I didn't realize it'd been so long since I posted here. Kinda sad really because the series just wrapped up. My overall feeling is the show was satisfactory. It's by no means perfect and it does take a lot of liberties with the mythos, but I was nonetheless invested and felt the character was treated with respect. The Superior adaptation and Ock's character development in season two was a real highlight for me. Plus we finally got MJ (voiced by Felicia Day) and a romance for Peter in season three, and I thought it was really well done; the chemistry brings an adorableness that reminds me of Tom and Zendaya in the MCU.
Disney+ has the first two seasons and will probably have the third up sometime soon for those wanting to rewatch, catch up, or give it a shot.
As we look to the future, maybe it's time to give Spidey a break for a few years. Let the creative juices build up and come back swinging with something good.

I fell off after season 1, but every time I get on Disney+ the show calls to me. I will be watching it for sure at some point though. Glad you dropped in!
