www.cbr.com/new-spider-man-animated-series-to-debut-in-2017/“We’ve been secretly nurturing ‘Marvel’s Spider-Man’ for years now, so we are thrilled to finally announce it,” Cort Lane, senior vice president of Marvel Animation and Family Entertainment, said in a statement. “The simple title reflects a back-to-basics approach – the story of an ordinary teen, Peter Parker, who suddenly finds himself with strange new powers and overwhelming responsibility. The nightmare is over! Ultimate Spider-Man is DEAD! Nah, for what it was, the show did improve as it went on, but couldn't hold a candle to the 90's show or Spectacular. I had a feeling Marvel would be doing something new with animated Spidey to tie in with the new movie, but kind of thought they'd just revamp Ultimate again. Starting from scratch is perfect because now it gives them the chance to get it right. I think we can all agree that Ultimate was such a disappointment because it was the first Spider-Man show to actually be made by Marvel and it was just a mockery. Now they have the chance to get it right and be a real Spider-Man show. Don't screw up this time Marvel!

Finally! To think that Ultimate lasted much longer than Spectacular disgusts me. Now that's something to look forward to.

As I'm watching the latest Ultimate right now, this just makes this news even better. Seriously, they're continuing to ruin MJ and now they're screwing up the Clone Saga (AND THAT'S SAYING SOMETHING). Not even sure why I'm still watching now that we got a new Spidey coming.

I feel you BIB. Eventually, the show got better, but it never lived up to what it could have been. That's what happens when you take a character who's equally famous for his secret identity as a normal person, and totally ignore that aspect of his character. The design looks like a back to the basics approach, which seems appropriate given the statements above. I'm definitely interested.

So who should voice Spidey in this series? I'm betting they'll replace Drake and I doubt they'll get Josh Keaton back. My vote is for Yuri Lowenthal, who's actually voicing Spidey in next year's PS4 game (and Code Geass fans will remember him as Suzaku Kururugi).

I dunno. I'm really not up on who the best voice actors are. I could see them getting Josh Keaton again though. Probably won't happen, but it wouldn't shock me if he was cast again.
As far as them hiring new writers, they probably hire new writers all the time. People who come and go, but also have a core creative committee.

Spider-man Short:
These are always fun, and often times better than the shows turn out to be. That said, I feel that once again they've made Peter Parker annoying. Also, their characterization of the teacher is ridiculous. I know it's supposed to be Alistaire Smithe or one of the Smithe's (are there more than 1?), but he literally tells Peter he's going to 'kick him to the moon' if Peter had one more outburst. Peter was annoying, but he was also the most enthusiastic student on a field trip. You reward that, especially when you're out in public because those kids make your school look good. Why cartoons always get this wrong, I'll never know, but it's just a minor nitpick that has become a pet peeve of mine. They did the same thing in the 2015 Fantastic Four reboot with Reed Richards. It was so stupid. His teacher was literally annoyed that he went above and beyond on a project. While I never saw the movie, they featured this scene prominently in the official full length trailer. That one was worse, because it was a live action movie where they were trying to get a more grounded feel. It's as tho they imagine teachers are like, "How dare my students enjoy school!"

I was just about to post this myself.
Was Peter annoying? Yes, but in this case, it's a good thing. I like to see Peter enthusiastic about science; it's supposed to be his passion after all. I'm guessing he's probably 15 here, right? But yeah, this whole "teacher being annoyed with students" trope has to stop. I felt the same thing you did about the teacher in Fant4stic. It's like, why are you even a teacher if you're not trying to enrich kids? Mr. Warren was much better in Spectacular. Also, the teacher is Spencer Smythe and his son Alistair was Harry's parnter.
Overall though, I think it's alright so far. Let's be honest, it's already better than Ultimate Spider-Man, at least in how they're trying to be more faithful to the character. I'm kind of enjoying the anime influence too; it should make for some better fight scenes compared to Ultimate. I hope at least that this show can be in the top 3 of Spidey shows, along with the 90's and Spectacular series.

Thanks for clarifying on the Smithe thing. I get what you're saying about Peter being enthusiastic about the right thing. Hopefully, the show can find a way to get him to be enthusiastic with a little more subtlety. It's such a hard balance that Homecoming seems to have nailed down. Sometimes his enthusiasm for science is too subtle, so I guess it's nice to see them on the other side of that for once. I mean, Peter is a complete idiot in a way that went against character in the Ultimate Spider-man show. Any way tho, Peter's no Tony Stark, but there's a reason why he has so many friends. While he's not the life of the party, he is generally likable and fun to be around, so hopefully they figure that out.

I mean, Peter is a complete idiot in a way that went against character in the Ultimate Spider-man show. The worst offenses in that regard: * Stealing something from SHIELD to pass off as his science fair project without having any clue what it was. * Using taser webbing on Electro. TASER webbing on the guy with ELECTRIC powers. I know I've harped on this before, and no I will not let it go. It's like thinking "I'll stop Hydro Man by throwing him into the ocean!"

That's the perfect analogy. It really was an unforgivable moment, even for those of us who ended up enjoying the show. It's colorful background noise for me.

Not everyone's a good teacher like you, Excellent. I also think it's kinda ridiculous to (threaten to) punish the enthusiastic kid, but I can remember a handful of teachers I had who were kind of dicks to smartasses. The Peter Parker portrayed in the cartoon definitely seems like the kind of guy to correct the teacher on pedantic details. Some teachers can't handle that and wind up just despising the kid. Anyway, if anything, it makes us dislike the teacher and I'm guessing that's the intent. To be honest though, the clip felt kind of uninspired to me. There is potential to elaborate on the "chance" theme since they set it up so well, but the clip alone felt dull. I hope I'm getting the wrong impression. After all, the first Spectacular Spider-Man episode wasn't all that good on its own, but boy did it set up an awesome series!

I guess I just wanted the show to try and be somewhat dynamic and not too one note with the obvious villain set ups. In the Spectacular Spider-man, Miles Warren was one of Conor's lab partners I believe. Whoever it was, I could tell in the Lizard episodes that they wanted to set him up as a bad guy, but it wasn't too on the nose either.
