This is just speculation on my part, but I think they may be already. From the sound of it, season 4 (this one going by Ultimate Spider-Man vs the Sinister Six) is going to be more Spider-Man-centric than the show has been so far. Apparently Peter will be leading his own team of Spiders under SHIELD with Flash/Venom, Amadeus/Iron Spider, and Miles Morales (whether this is from the alternate Earth or a new version from the main Earth I'm not sure). Not only that, but Kaine is supposed to appear as the Scarlet Spider, and I'm pretty sure I saw somewhere that Gwen Stacy will be on too. But apparently the main storyline this season will be Ock trying to unite villains to take down Spider-Man for good. If this season doesn't involve a Superior Spider-Man arc at some point, I'll be disappointed. It'd be very interesting. So yeah, I'm a little more excited for this season.
In my opinion though, season three ending with Contest of Champions and including characters from the three shows kind of made me think they were marking an end to this era of Marvel animation. Between the cancellation of Hulk and the Agents of SMASH (yay!) and how good the Guardians of the Galaxy series is, I think Marvel's trying to up the ante now with their shows and get back up on par of Avengers: EMH and Spectacular Spider-Man. I doubt we'll ever get shows as good as those again, but it doesn't hurt to try.

Yeah. Contest of champions felt like a series finale. I haven't kept up on Guardians, but I want to. The first episode sort of sullied some of my excitement for the show because the shorts were so good and the first episode didn't seem to have the same tone at all. I need to see it again though because I watched a crummy Youtube version that was only 17 minutes long.

So three episodes into Season Four, and it seems like I was right about them going more Spidey-centric along with Ock building his new Sinister Six. The SHIELD/HYDRA conflict is still there more than I thought, but it's not the prominent part.
The two part premiere introduced us to the Scarlet Spider. There's a big mystery element to him, and while he looks and act like Kaine, we haven't got a straight answer to his real identity. All we know is that Ock did some experiment stuff on him like you'd expect from a mad scientist stuff (so he's basically filling the Miles Warren/Jackal role). What's really interesting is that he referred to himself as "the first spider". Now, it's possible that maybe Ock was trying to make some spider-based soldiers for Osborn before Peter even became Spider-Man. Then again, what if it's a Clone Saga situation where Scarlet is the original Peter Parker tortured and experimented on, making him harder, and the Spidey we know on the show is a clone who replaced the original at an unknown point? ...But I'm probably getting carried away on that last part.
The third episode brings Miles back into the fray. Unfortunately, Donald Glover doesn't return to provide the voice, replaced by Luke Cage's voice actor. We get a little more background on him, the main thing being that in a reversed situation from the comics, Miles' dad is dead and his mother knows he's Spider-Man. He ends up being trapped in the main universe and joins up with the Web Warriors until they can find a way to send him home (and right now I'm glad that they aren't calling him Kid Arachnid like I heard they would because that would be a disservice to the character).
It's interesting how each of the Spider-Men bring something different for the team. Peter is the leader and jokester (and can I just say that I'm so glad how much he's developed from the beginning from the show; even his jokes are getting better). Amadeus/Iron Spider is the tech guy. Flash/Venom is the strong man. Scarlet is the brooding bad boy. Miles is the rookie. We got a little tease of all five interacting in the end of the third episode, and I feel like this is going to be the most entertaining aspect this season.
So yeah, season four is off to a great start and could be the best yet. My only hopes are that we get a little more personal with Peter (and that Gwen actually will appear), and that we get some form of the Superior Spider-Man (especially since Ock on the show now looks similar to how he did in the comics pre-Superior).

How is this getting four seasons but the Spectacular Spider-Man was discontinued after season 2?

I'm way behind on superhero cartoons. I've only ever seen bits and pieces of two episodes of The Spectacular Spider-Man and I have yet to sit and watch this new cartoon. Which one is better? Spectacular Spider-Man or Ultimate Spider-Man?

So I'm about to go on a rant about the ending of the recent "Symbiote Saga" three parter and how the overall show has used Mary Jane, so ***SPOILERS!!!*** ahead.
So we all know since the beginning of the show that they decided to forgo the romance aspect of Peter's life and had him and MJ just be friends. That in itself isn't a bad thing, although as the show went on, she became less prominent. In fact, I believe she only appeared in ONE episode in ALL of Season Three (not counting her Noir counterpart during Spider-Verse). When she appeared at the start of part one of the "Symbiote Saga", I said "Oh, hey MJ. I forgot you exist on this show." Anyway, "Symbiote Saga" was going pretty well and even made a pretty creepy version of Carnage, at least at first when it was purely sentient symbiote (not to mention Dee Bradley Baker voiced him again like in the 2000 game). Then we get to part three and it made a pretty huge misstep in my opinion: they turned Mary Jane into Carnage. And not that she's possessed by one of the symbiote like everyone else was, but she's actually the 'Carnage Queen' and able to control the other Carnage symbiotes due to some ridiculous reason about her having contact with the Venom and Anti-Venom symbiotes making her more able to control it. It just seemed forced. At least Harry being Venom in the first two seasons was able to work. Hell, the Gwen/Carnage clone from the Ultimate comics made more sense. So Peter, Flash, and Harry are able to pull MJ away from Carnage by revealing their identities to her (oh yeah Peter finally revealed he's Spider-Man to Harry too). Peter gives her the whole talk about 'not telling her because his enemies could come after her'. (I'm about to explode right here): PETER, THIS IS THE FIRST TIME WE'VE SEEN YOU INTERACT WITH MJ IN OVER A SEASON AND A HALF! YOU ACTUALLY NEED TO SPEND CONSIDERABLE TIME WITH LOVED ONES TO WORRY ABOUT YOUR ENEMIES GONG AFTER THEM! TO HAVE LOVED ONES, YOU NEED A SOCIAL LIFE, WHICH YOU DON'T! YOUR WHOLE LIFE ON THIS SHOW IS BASICALLY SPIDER-MAN! PRACTICALLY 99% OF YOUR FRIENDS ARE SUPERHEROES! AAAAAHHHHH!!!
*catches breath*
Anyway, it seems we might be seeing more of MJ on the show now, and maybe her and Peter will get closer, but I'm not sure. Oh, and she still has some of Carnage in her, much like Harry kept having Venom resurface from time to time. So "yay", more MJ-Carnage.
Sorry, but some old wounds about this show were really opened up for me. I probably wouldn't even have such a problem if it weren't for how MJ has been used during this whole show, especially since they put a lot of focus on Peter and Harry's bromance in comparison.

No need to apologize, I feel you. I eventually came around to this show, but that sounds terrible. I actually really like this version of MJ. Writing her as a friend has given her character a new dimension, she's not written as the girl everyone wants to get with. She has her own ambitions and separate interests, and it's only through that lens that we've seen her through. If they ever do have a relationship, it might even be more interesting because of it.
With regard to Spectacular Spider-man, lopli, I'm shocked!!! j/k, but on a serious note, Spectacular is arguably the greatest representation of Spider-man outside of comics, and as a whole it's actually better done than many* of the Spider-man comics I've read. Different mediums, apples and oranges, I know, but it's a damn good story. People argue over which is the better series: 90's Animated Spidey or Spectacular, and while the 90's show had 5 seasons to explore the character, for me nothing holds a candle to spectacular in terms of tv. Do yourself a favor and check it out.
*I said "many", not "most" or "all"!

On that note, Spectacular probably gave us the best interpretation of Eddie Brock/Venom. While the Eddie of the 90's series, comics, and movies, was really a jerk who blamed Spider-Man for his own misfortunes, Spectacular gave us a Venom where we could sympathize with, where his hatred of Spider-Man can be seen as wellfounded.
