Singer says the timeframes of the movie will be 10 years after First Class as well as 10 years after The Last Stand: www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/JoshWildingNewsAndReviews/news/?a=84160Considering the original DOFP only prevented that timeline in the main universe but still existed as its own world, I'm not sure how much this timeframe for the present/future will matter when they move on to new films in the series. But I guess it helps to have a timeline set up for this film.

I think that whatever they do in the First Class timeframe prevents or at least postpones the Sentinels' activation that we see in the future scenes.

I really like what I see. It's clear that there is a lot of work left to be done. The music isn't close to being ready (which is normal at this stage), much of the effects heavy shots are eschewed in favor of more character driven moments, etc. This is beautiful though. This seems to promise what the original franchise should have tackled after X-Men 2, which is a focus on public policy and civil unrest. Seriously, it looks like we have a film about politics, revolution, civil unrest on our hands; exactly what an X-Men film should strive to be about.*
On another note, I'd really like the Cloud Atlas composer to score this film. That movie was something else, and the music was a very solid through line that would fit the tone of this well.
*Or at least, the topicality is something that should be covered in depth at least once in the franchise's life. First class did, but now we have the original cast back, which I tend to prefer.

Past Magneto has a new suit: I like it. It's like a younger version of the Magneto suit from the first 3 movies. Nice connection. Besides that, from that angle, does anyone else see the Geass symbol on the helmet?

Interesting. I think XMFC used the Cuban Missile Crisis in a way that, if not fresh, was at least inspired. I hope the trend continues here.

There are many fans out there who would prefer XMFC to the original movies. I feel that I'd be in the same boat in spite of the nostalgia, had Singer utilized more of the classic characters instead of characters like alternative Angel and Darwin (admittedly, he was the most engaging of the lesser known mutants). My fear with this is that we will continue to see less of the characters like Ice Man, Rogue and Colossus until they are no longer utilized, which is a shame because they held the promise of being further developed. Rogue and Iceman especially carry some great cinematic potential, their powers would have been really fun to watch on screen pitted against these robotic foes.
