Previously on X-Men...
Just thought this would be a cool thing to share before the movie's officially out. Can't wait to see it tonight.

I'd give it an 8.5/10. For me, this movie is in Marvel's top 2 movies ever made. Like Marvel's best efforts, it sometimes doesn't feel like a superhero movie. The cinematography in this film is the best the franchise has seen, and the performances of the actors elevate the material. While you may find yourself having to work hard to suspend your disbelief when Hank talks about Charles' reason for being able to walk again, or when they talk about the time travel stuff (which I thought was unusually straight forward), the human drama grounds it all so that the entire production works beautifully. At its core, this movie is about the emotional fallout between Charles, Eric and Raven. The 70's backdrop with which this human drama unfolds is thankfully one of the movie's strength's. I was pleasantly surprised by a few cameos, some of which made me cheer. I will also say that Evan Peters' Quicksilver stole the show for me. He was the most fun to watch out of the lot of them. I was initially worried about the character portrayal, especially because the earlier promotional material was so poor. The final trailer helped to remedy my expectations, as well as my admiration of Peters' talents on American Horror Story. Now, post viewing, I definitely feel that Aaron Johnson has his work cut out for him, even if his role is bigger in AOU than Peters' in DOFP. No doubt, Joss has something fun for him to chew on. Of those cameos though, A friend and I were discussing the need to bring Cyclops back. He being a Cyclops fan above all other superhero characters, felt it was imperative, even if a new actor was to be cast. I shared those sentiments, but when James Mardsen grabbed Logan's hand and stopped him from touching Jean, I cheered in the movie theater. It was also nice to see Kelsey Grammar's beast come back. Holt definitely rocks the part, but Grammer was a casting choice on the level of Patrick Stewart.

It's a 9.5 for me. I feel this film has done for the franchise what Avengers did for Marvel. Between the character portrayals and the well done special effects and action scenes, it feels the most comic book like of all the X-Men movies. Plus that ending really gives off the feeling of almost everything being fair game again, not to mention it was a big "Fuck you!" to Brett Ratner. lol I accidentally found out beforehand that Scott and Jean would be making cameos, but I didn't know the context of the scene. While I wish I could have remained surprised, it was still nice to see them again.
It's making me think about that mystery Marvel movie Fox has planned for 2018. While Apocalypse may be another First Class sequel, maybe Fox is prepping for another X-Men movie that will be set back in the present with the original cast returning again. Maybe it's wishful thinking at this point, but it would be awesome. Could finally give Marsden's Cyclops a real role in these movies too.
And as for the post credits scene, I only wish that there would have been some hint to it somewhere else in the film before the actual scene, like how they hinted at Thanos in Avengers before his scene. Still though, after the scene ended, I yelled out "Apocalypse bitches!"

I'd give it a 9.5 as well. It's a tricky plot to portray on screen in a comic book movie but they do a great job managing it, and for the most part being explanatory during it. Acting is top notch Fassbender and McAvoy do a great job yet again. Tremendous effects and cinematography and yeah the ending is awesome lol.

This was a (forgive the pun) first class X-men movie. It brought together all of the elements that made the two different timelines great, the casts included and seamlessly integrated them into what felt like a work of art, and not just because of the top notch CGI. This was one of those superhero films that felt like a human film. You could connect with the desperation of the future characters and the drama between the past characters with the overarching theme of hope and finding your lost path to tie it all together.
Fassbender as Magnet is, as usual, a total badass and pulls off both the holier-than-thou moments and the more sympathetic scenes.
