Man, Marvel Studios are really going to town with their films. I think their business model is brilliant; people who watched one of the Marvel Universe films would want to do the same with the others, even if the quality of some is mediocre at best, and this means money. But I don't know if it'll remain profitable or kinda harm the company in the long run. By that, I mean that some people might feel discouraged by the sheer scope of the universe, the same way some moviegoers might not want to check out the sequel to a movie they haven't watched. Don't know if it'd matter that much to Marvel Studios, but I don't know... What do you guys think?

If Marvel does get the rights back, do you think they'll go through with this?

Speculation time!
Okay, so last week, the rumor of Sony and Marvel making a deal to share Spider-Man made the rounds again, but to a greater extant than before. Now this week, they basically announce the Civil War movie. And to coincide with this, they announce basically a Civil War recap book for next summer to get people familiar with the story and ready for the movie, and on the cover to that book, we see Cap and Stark practically playing tug of war with Spidey. Now you have to think, with Marvel basically retelling the story for the sake of MCU fans, why would they include Spidey on the forefront with the two side leaders, while his film rights are still currently owned by Sony? Could it be that this is all set? When you think about it, Spidey is the soul of the story. With his mixed feelings on the act, the viewer is basically in his shoes trying to decide what to do. Besides that, story wise, they could use Spidey as a forefront example of unchecked superhuman control, which Tony will use to invite him to join his cause and bring others to his side, given Spidey's own public support.
Or you know, maybe this is just me wanting Spidey to be part of the MCU. Please Marvel, let this happen! I will admit, it may seem crowded if Cap, Spidey and Stark all share the spotlight, but we've seen Marvel make multiple characters work before.

You know, I think Sony would do it if Marvel Studios was also willing to share. I mean, if there were certain players who were significant in their title character's life post Cap 3, you'd have to have some way to acknowledge them in Sony's "spiderverse". Unless Spidey's part could be wrapped up in a nice clean way, which would be most ideal. A relationship such as this, at this point in time, doesn't seem primed to last very long though. Why not get that cameo, and then go with a clean cut. Sony gets their money, people will want to see more Spidey again, etc. Further, if Spidey is a huge hit and part of the reason for a billion dollar success (which Cap 3 may earn, even with B v S on its heels), then it'll make them want to reconsider another negotiation.
EDIT: I don't think it's going to happen guys. Marvel Studios can totally write another version of Civil War without Spider-man at the center. The idea of a Civil War does lend itself for various interpretations. Beyond that, Spidey was thrown in the middle of this event as part of a long term plan to terminate his marriage to Mary Jane. So while it worked very well from a story telling standpoint, there was definitely motive for the story to be written the way that it was. It was not by necessity. Not that anyone is saying that.
EDIT of EDIT: Last one, I promise. Let's just be dreamers and say for the sake of discussion that Spider-man will be included in the Civil War stuff. It's a political story. What better way to rally public opinion than to get a man for the people, who also just so happens to be a superhero? This leads me back to my idea for the next Spider-man film. Don't even call it Amazing Spider-man 3. Call it "A Day in the Life" or something. No super villains. Make Spider-man the ground level, grass roots, blue collared superhero that he is. Make him someone who is helping the homeless build shelters, helping civic organizers organize shit, protecting people from gang violence, equalizing shit Denzel Washington style (okay, maybe not since Spidey doesn't kill). Do this for Spider-man, and he makes a lot more sense as a guy that Tony would want people to rally behind. Spider-man constantly fighting God like figures and beasts isn't so much a person people will see as one of them.
The release date of the next Spider-man film does pose a problem (it's after Cap 3). You know what would be awesome though? Sony dealing a Netflix exclusive deal for a 40 minute short film on a super low budget (keep it below 20 million if actors pay allows it). Let someone else direct it even, like a passion project for someone to do. All practical, maybe a few million extra to get a good swinging sequence in there. Whoo, I'm seeing stars right now.

Your "A Day in the Life" idea would probably work better as a short film, like Marvel's One-Shots. Let's be honest, as a full length feature, it probably wouldn't draw much of an audience; for a superhero movie, you know you gotta have supervillains.

It would have to be a short film now, now that they've had Lizard and Electro setting expectations. Hence, the Netflix idea.
However, I'd respectfully contend and clarify that TASM could've still made a killing in 2012 without super powered super villains. Had they focused on making a good movie, with a fully realized back story detailing the dirty corporate dealings of Oscorp, we could've still been in for some fun stuff. Spider-man vs. elite trained security guards with high tech toys would've been entertaining on a level the general audience could get hyped up for. The "super villains" in this case could be the billionaires with virtually unlimited resources, or very powerful drug lords. Sorry for getting so off topic though. It was kind of repetitive from what I said in the TASM 2 thread, which I apologize for.
Back onto Cap, rumor has it they're going to swap Spidey for Bucky in the MCU version of Civil War. I don't know how that would work out from the comics standpoint. I only read parts of Civil War, and I don't remember Bucky being in it. However, I could definitely see it working out from what has transpired in the movies.

Kevin Feige on Spider-Man: "Anything that wasn't specifically and obviously revealed today is either not true at all, or still rumor until it's worked out." www.denofgeek.us/movies/spider-man/240742/kevin-feige-on-spider-man-marvel-cinematic-universe-rumorsHmm, you'd think he would just say no, right? If I had to guess, we probably wouldn't get an official announcement until San Diego Comic Con, since Marvel would need something big for the panel. I'll just say this though: if it happens, I will geek out harder than I ever have in my life.

I don't think it's happening unless Sony just gives up. Marvel cares, but they don't need Spidey right now (or for the next 5 years at least), so yeah. I honestly think that if they were working it out, yesterday would've had to be the day to drop it. Then again, Feige did say they had wanted to reveal all of this at SDCC, but they just didn't have everything where they needed it to be at that point in time. Perhaps this is the case with Spider-man too?

The question is, if Spider-man does show up, what capacity would we like him to have? At this point, we know it's too late in the production process to have him be at the heart of the movie as originally planned. So, do we want an after credits cameo? Or if possible, would we like to see Marvel attempt to squeeze a more glorified cameo role in? For my money, I'd rather see an after credits cameo, even if it's miniscule and disappointing, than to have a larger part that really lets everyone down. Reason being, cameos are more easily ignored. We've waited this long, we can afford to wait longer to have it done right.
It goes without saying that I'd want any cameo Spidey is in to be good. I just don't know how much validity is behind Spidey showing up at all until Sony releases something officially and the people at MS comment on it in an official capacity.
