Man, Bernthal's gonna shine here.

My word, has it really been this long since anyone has commented in this section? Guess I'm 20% of the reason behind that, considering there's only 5 of us that come around here these days...
Well, I got around to finishing Season 2 of Jessica Jones. In some ways, I think it was superior to season 1. The supporting characters had a lot more time to shine and in general I think we had some of the best character work the Marvel TV verse has to offer. Ritter continues to be (IMO) the best cast actor in the Marvel tv side of things. Charlie Cox is killing it as Daredevil and Jon Bernthal's Frank Castle is the best we may ever get (or could hope for even), but I honestly couldn't imagine anyone else in the role of Jessica Jones. For a while now, I've been complaining about superhero stories resorting to using half baked supervillains to fill out their stories. For the genre to survive, we need to see these characters as real people with all the variety of experiences that real people bring to the table. If every story is about taking down a bad guy, then what's the point of trying to elevate the other aspects of these stories? I feel that Luke Cage suffered from that in season 1 especially. The Dark Knight Rises also faltered in that department, as did The Amazing Spider-man which I still contend didn't need a traditional supervillain, Iron Man 2 (which should have focused on Tony's celebrity and his role in the U.S. as an independent military force), the list goes on.
Anyway, I enjoyed season 2 of Jessica Jones, but it took me much longer to get through this season. Unlike season 1, I don't see myself revisiting season 2. Episode 7 was a powerful episode though. Some of the best acting in a Marvel live action production took place in that episode, across all networks and platforms, IMO.
With regard to Luke Cage season 2, I'm actually enjoying this one quite a bit. They fixed the Diamondback villain problem, but unfortunately, they are still contending with the high bar they set with Cottonmouth. Bushmaster is a great villain, but something is missing. I don't know if it's just me having a short attention span, but this season just seems like it's taking too long. I guess I could say the same thing about Jessica Jones season 2 and the Netflix shows in general, but I'm starting to agree with that criticism (which is common across most reviews I've seen) of these series being too long. So, I started this paragraph saying how much I'm enjoying this season, and then proceeded to criticize it. Of the things I enjoyed, they include Luke getting stronger, the lively setting in Harlem (a holdover of a strength from season 1), the action and awesome music, the character work, AND the show's "fixing" of Danny Rand/ Iron Fist. I still have 2 or 3 episodes to go, so I guess I'll post back here when I get done with those.
Any one else been keeping up with Netflix Marvel stuff?
EDIT: Didn't we talk about the Punisher series on a thread here somewhere? I checked the Punisher page and couldn't find any extended conversation. The last thing we mentioned on that thread was something about a failed show in 2012 that never took off.

Still keeping up, so here's my quick thoughts.
Loved the Punisher. Really enjoyed Jessica Jones S2. It's just as good as S1, and I love how there's no real villain this time around; it's just a bunch of damaged people trying to get by. With Luke Cage, this is the first case for the Netflix shows where the second season clearly outdoes the first. Good action and I loved all the emotional drama between characters, particularly Luke and his dad, as its the starting point of showing how vulnerable Luke can be emotionally. It's a shame Reg E. Cathy passed and won't be able to return. And this season really cemented Mariah for me as on the MCU's best villains. As for Danny, hallelujah on that front. I guess when you can't go around saying you're the chosen one in a secret war, you get a personality overhaul. But seriously, it gives me a lot more hope for Iron Fist season 2 and that we get a Heroes for Hire series down the road, but that depends on where Luke's character goes next. Without spoiling the end of the season, it's a major status quo shift.

Daredevil Season 3 Official Trailer
This excites me, probably more than any show Netflix has put out since Luke Cage S1 (which I ended up not being that impressed with by season's end). It looks fantastic. We also have a Bullseye in the house!

Of all the seasons this year, this is the one I've been looking forward to most.

Iron Fist cancelled: www.cbr.com/iron-fist-netflix-canceled/A shame, but not surprising. While season two was an improvement, it was still the overall weakest of the shows. Hopefully we can still get Heroes for Hire though.

I think we will to be honest. The problem comes with the way Luke Cage season 2 ended.

Yeah, I feel Luke needs one more season that can lead into HFH.

Bummer. Maybe the actors can still cameo and do cross over event shows. Anyone seen S3 Daredevil or started watching yet? Easily the best season since season 1 Daredevil and Jessica Jones for me. The sad part is (IMO of course), it's the only one of the Marvel Netflix shows since JJ that I couldn't stop watching after the first episode. It took me a couple weeks to finish S2 Daredevil and Luke Cage (with vacation days I might add), several to finish S1 of Iron First, even longer to finish Jessica Jones's and also Luke Cage's S2. Defenders was short so it was kind of easy to get through. Yeah though. Also, the fight choreography in Daredevil is still better than all of the other shows. It's better than most of the action films that have come out these days. I'm already 8 episodes in, and it just came out yesterday.

It's still possible they'll just combine them into a Heroes for Hire series. I haven't started Daredevil S3 yet, but hopefully tonight. Like I said, I've been looking forward to it all year. And I agree that it does have the best fights overall, especially the hallway and stairwell scenes. I heard there's one this season that tops even those.

My wife and I just watched 2 more episodes, and it's a busy night. I don't even have time for it, but it's too hard to stop watching. The tension, the character work, the revelations that I knew were coming but were still done well enough to get excited over as they happened. My favorite season for sure, and I loved season 1. There's definitely fight scenes in here that rival and outdo the hallway and stairwell fight scene in terms of flashiness and whatnot. I don't know that the hallway fight will ever be topped as a personal favorite though because it was a game changer for me. It was just this relentless piece of brutality that was stripped down from all the bells and whistles. There was an emotional pay off too because of his reason for showing up in that building. Still though, I actually enjoyed the choreography more here than I did in Daredevil Season 2, and it's probably because this season has helped me to become invested in the characters again.

We have 2 episodes to go, and wow, it just doesn't let up. The Karen Paige episode is special. It's sad, but it's special. Without spoiling too much, I can tell you that there's definitely more encounters between Daredevil and Bullseye, and they even feel different from their first encounter. Now, I know I sound like a broken record but that FIGHT CHOREOGRAPHY!!! OH MY GAWD. I love it. If not for the deal with Disney and soon to be launched streaming platform, this show could have saved Marvel Netflix, or launched a new wave. It's that good of a season. Brilliant.

I finished it. No spoilers here, but I can't think of a single weak moment. It starts off strong, and finishes stronger. I felt like I was going to hyperventilate. There are actors here that deserve some awards for their work in this season. The writers did one hell's kitchen of a job**. All around, this season was superb. It's like, The Godfather Part 2 to season 1's The Godfather. I fear this may be the end of the line because of all these cancellations, and maybe the audience has moved on... then again, once things start trending, amazing things happen. Netflix pumps so much stuff out these days, they don't really have any one "baby", but this season definitely deserves a big push and lots of recognition. **Sorry not sorry!!!

Just finished. Oh my god that last fight was brutal. They really outdid themselves this season, from the character development and the fights. I don't know if Marvel really is cancelling all the Netflix shows, but if this was the end of Daredevil, I think it had a satisfying conclusion, wrapping up each character's story with enough tease for another season should it happen.
